How long were you in Hospital/MLU for after birth?

Just wondering how long people stayed in for, particularly if you gave birth in a midwife led unit as opposed to a hospital labour ward - do they encourage you to go home faster or will they still help you with establishing breastfeeding etc before you leave?

Trying to decide between MLU and the hospital and I keep changing my mind!

Had a water birth with DS2. No complications or worries post birth, he was feeding fine and I was as well as you can be after birthing a big baby! I had him at 10.15pm and also was donating my placenta to Anthony Nolan so I stayed in until the next morning for the AN chap. Probably went home at 10am the next day after they did a big round of discharging. This was at a big London hospital.

Dd - born about 4pm (forceps and episiotomy, Moderate pph). Left about 27 hours later. Delivery suite was great. Postnatal Ward was horrendous (they gave me paracetamol once, instead of every 4 hours for example. Got 20 mins sleep. They woke me up from that 20 mins saying 'your baby is crying', handed her to me then left. They tried to convince me to stay another night as they were still deciding whether or not I needed a blood transfusion... the list of awful goes on.

Gave birth to ds a week ago. He had serious decels and meconium in waters. We stayed on delivery for 8 hours after the birth (dh could stay). Second degree tear. I was sat in pools of blood for about four hours. Also took 4 hours to get the diclofenac I requested... they insisted ds be checked over by dr before we left but didnt tell us it was going to be in the morning!

Basically, the birth itself went quite well, but the aftercare has been fairly woeful both times... I got out as soon as I could!!!!

DC1 - rough hospital birth, though no epidural. In for a day and a half and was desperate to get home The postnatal ward was no pleasant and I didn’t find it easy post episiotomy to get in and out of the bed changing nappies overnight alone. Much better to be home with another pair of hands.
DC2- MLU, straightforward waterbirth, out within 5-6 hours. Much nicer!
