I'm 4+5 today after a year and a half of trying and I'm worried about ectopic pregnancy but also don't want to make a fuss if it's nothing.

I've had some mild cramps for a few days now, but nothing exactly painful. Today I've had shoulder tip (I think) pain though; it came on suddenly this afternoon like a stabbing sharp pain and kind of pulsated for a while, then eased off, and now it's just started again. It makes me sharply inhale when it starts but it's not the most painful thing, just uncomfortable.

Thing is, it's my right arm and I've been sleeping funny the last few weeks where I wake up and it's above my head and is hurting, and that shoulder sometimes has a weird nerve pain because of it when I, for example, reach up to push a window open.

So is it just a continuation of random nerve damage or could it be a sign of an ectopic? Please help! What does ectopic shoulder tip pain actually feel like because everywhere I read is very vague!

I'd definitely get checked out asap just to be on the safe side. I had an ectopic that ruptured in 2017 so I'd advise anyone with concerns to seek medical advice. My pain was mostly in my pelvis so I can't help with the shoulder tip pain but as it is a known symptom I wouldn't leave it.

Hoping it's not an ectopic & you'll be fine, wishing you well x

I should also say that as a healthcare professional myself no one on here can confirm whether it's nerve/joint pain or something more serious. I'd advise calling 111 for an assessment x

It's highly likely that everything's fine and easily explained by stretching/ nerve pain etc... but I'd agree it's totally worth getting checked over. My understanding is that the shoulder tip pain is one of the last symptoms before you collapse in agony, generally speaking, as it's caused by internal bleeding reaching your diaphragm after a rupture.

Call 111 for advice on who to see over the weekend. Not worth it if it is ectopic...

I would definitely go get checked out. Shoulder
tip pain is supposed to be very late in the process pain, if you can’t get through to 111 then go to a and e!

Thanks everyone, though I fell asleep not long after posting and have been 100% fine today, no pain, definitely don't feel like I have any internal bleeding 🙃 upon reading more about ectopic pregnancy @Chica1990, you're right, it is quite late in the process and I'm definitely not ill at all! Definitely didn't collapse in agony @physicskate and on reflection it wasn't very painful at all and didn't last long! Feel a bit daft today, but all is good.

Sorry to hear about your experiences @jackjack84 💖 I have had nerve pain a few times in different places and it really did feel like that, I was just looking to hear about what specifically ectopic shoulder pain feels like, but I guess not like nerve pain! As I say though, I'm definitely fine 😊

I had no shoulder pain. I'd visited my GP as things didn't feel right but was fobbed off by telling me it was a tummy bug, even though I had no symptoms other than pain.
The pain subsided but I was sent home from work (as I looked grey).
I was visiting a friend when the pain came back, she was so concerned she took me to a&e, and I had emergency surgery for a ruptured tube, and told that my friend saved my life as it was on the verge of sepsis.
The GP got a warning.
A check up will put your mind at rest.

@aquamama glad to hear you're feeling better today 💓 Nothing to feel daft about at all! You know your body better than anyone, take care of yourself & I hope you have a happy & healthy pregnancy x

@aquamama glad you feel better today! I didn’t feel unwell when I had an ectopic in October either, in fact when I called for blood results and they asked me to come in due to suspected ectopic I said I don’t feel bad enough for that! I just wanted to get to the bottom of why I had strong positives after weeks of bleeding. They had said before it’s unlikely to be that as it’s very rare but looking at the stats it’s not as uncommon as you would think so I always think people should be vigilant just in case!

Congrats on your pregnancy! I got a happy outcome earlier this year and am now 17 weeks 😊
