Low ferritin - anyone else in the same position?

Hi, I had low haemoglobin (HB) and low ferritin at at my 27 week blood tests. I’ve been taking iron supplements since and have just had my levels checked again and whilst my HB has gone up, my ferritin levels are actually lower than they were and are now 10.

Has anyone been in the same position and had an infusion? I’m not sure if they just worry more if HB is low. I’ve been taking tablets for 6 weeks.

I had a PPH after the birth of my DS so I’m worried it could happen again and if my iron stores are low that doesn’t sound good.

Would an infusion help ferritin levels?

Can you take three ? I’m not pregnant though and my ferritin was 5, but I needed three.

My HB was also ok, but taking 3 has got rid of my symptoms. Unfortunately they won’t retest to see what it is now.

Surely this is a question for your midwife/gp?
Why is she/he not prescribing you the supplements you need?

I can ask about taking three. Problem is I have gestational diabetes and it’s hard to space out my meals with taking the tablets and I can’t have things like orange juice to help absorption.

@SunnySideUp2020 I did ask the midwife and she said just keep taking the tablets but my thoughts are they clearly haven’t worked so far so is there another option. I’ll check with the consultant when I see them next week but I wondered if anyone else had been given an infusion in these circumstances.

The tablets also have rather unpleasant side effects on the digestive system.

I’ve just been told today after my booking in bloods that I have this (my ferritin level is 9) and have been prescribed ferrous sulfate. I’m suffering from really awful pregnancy sickness and nausea already and the ferrous sulfate is famous for making people poorly with a terrible sore stomach. I’ve taken the first tablet and am just lying terrified of it kicking in and making me feel even more ill Sad I would definitely take the infusion if offered! Hope you get sorted soon OP Flowers
