Subchorionic hematoma and progesterone

I have recently found out I am pregnant. I’m approx 4.5 weeks. With previous pregnancies I have had SCH and gone on to have preterm labour.
I’m waiting on a callback from my GP to see if they can prescribe micronised progesterone to try and prevent this from happening again as it is almost certain that the SCH bleeding caused the water to break early.
I was curious as to whether anyone else has gone down this route and what the outcome was

I didn't know that SCH caused prem labour. I had a 32 weeker after a SCH at the beginning. Could you contact your midwife and ask them to ask a consultant? You might have more luck that way x

I had a SCH in three pregnancies - two miscarriages and one successful. In every case it has gone by 10-11 weeks and I was prescribed progesterone. There’s a Tommy’s infographic that they suggest you share with your GP to aid getting hold of it. I will see if I can find it.

Thank you so much!! My GP was quite useless but I contacted the EPU at my local hospital and they’re going to look into it for me. I’d rather start it ASAP as I usually start bleeding around 7 weeks. GP has put my info through to the antenatal team so I should hear off them soon too

I underwent ivf abroad, because of my age 39 they said I should take Progesterone suppositories until 12weeks. I had an early bleed at 6 weeks and when they scanned me they saw a haemorrhage. At 8 weeks I had a further big bleed with clots. Got scanned again and baby had a heartbeat. Am now 27 weeks but do feel that the Progesterone helped prevent a potential miscarriage or 2 but when I asked the uk consultant to prescribe it at 8 weeks they refused as I’d not had a previous miscarriage and apparently that’s the criteria in the uk. I tapered my remaining doses until 10 weeks then crossed my fingers. Good luck and I hope you get some/listened to.

It’s darker now. Does this mean it’s over? I haven’t got any pain

Not at all. 50% of bleeding will continue to a healthy pregnancy. I had a number of really significant haemorrhages and my daughter is now nearly 8months old. It is the worst uncertainty ever but with a diagnosed SCH you were almost certain to bleed and the outcome might not be negative.

I spoke to someone in the EPU earlier to try and get these progesterone pessaries but my GP needs to refer me. My GP is a total flake and could have done that the last time I spoke to her. I wasn’t spotting then though. Got to wait until Monday now x

I haven’t actually been diagnosed with one this time(yet) but I’ve had them before with pregnancy so fully expecting it to happen again
