Booked section - what week were you given?

Hi All,

Curious to know what week you were given you section dates?

I had a scary birth with my twins a few years back, 1 vaginal birth, 2nd emergency section under anesthetic - born at 29wks after hospital discovered I was 2 centimetres dilated at almost 28wks routine scan. Anyway, I was told as soon as they were born, under no circumstances can I ever give birth vaginally.

After speaking to my mid-wife and pre-term consultant who went through birth notes, they agreed it was very traumatic and unusual. Anyway I am referred to hospital consultant for monitoring to see why I went into early labour etc.

What I want to know is, did anyone get booked for there section at 37 weeks? Midwife preterm consultant said most likely book me for 38/39 weeks but I am petrified I will go into labour unknowingly again and itll be traumatic again!!!

Ideally I was hoping to be booked in as soon as its safe.

Thanks for reading, I appreciate your responses.

There are risks of babies being born via CS before 39 weeks so they will book you for 39 weeks. If you go into labour before it will be an emcs.
My section was booked for 39+1.

My original section date was for 39+2. However we had issues with blood flow and growth, so it was safer for baby to be born sooner - so he was born via section at 37+2.

He struggled with his temp as he was only 5lb 1, and was a little jaundiced, but needed no medical help.

Usually it's minimum 39 weeks - I think they'll look at your twin pregnancy in isolation as it's pretty normal to go into labour early with multiples

Most singletons are delivered at 39wk, they usually give you steroid injections if they delivery earlier. If you do go in to labour before your elcs is booked they will get you in as an emergency

I had an elcs with breech twins, the position was only discovered at my 36wk check up as the lower had been hd on scans before then. Mine was booked for bang on 38wk, 9 days after my scan. I did have the option of a 3 day wait but dh was in a cast with a broken leg and would have been pretty useless for a week, he had his cast off the day after birth with me holding on to them a bit longer.

39+1, uncomplicated pregnancy and ELCS as had 3C tear 2.5 years before. Good luck!

Thanks all!

Its still early days and have to see what they think once they have monitored my cervix.

39+1, consultant said anything before 39th week I'd have to have steroids.

Mine was booked for 37 weeks. But was considered a "planned emergency section" due to the discovery at 34 weeks of baby having medical issues.

I was also told not to go into labour!!

Moominmiss · 09/04/2021 11:59

My 2 elective sections were done at 38+2. No issues, no steroids required etc.

This section I’ve been told will be between 38-39 weeks.

Nichola2310 · 09/04/2021 12:26

My elective section was at 39 +2.

ForwardRanger · 09/04/2021 12:28

Yes I was booked for 37 weeks. All fine.

Grognonne · 09/04/2021 13:50

39 exactly for me, as poster says above to minimise the risk. You will get scans and consultant appointments so if there are any issues then they can move the date, but there is more risk before 39 weeks so they like to leave it until then if possible.

Superstardjs · 09/04/2021 13:55

38+2 to (try and) ensure I didn't go into labour naturally. Dd was teeny but no problems that required intervention.

Rutennotou · 09/04/2021 14:12

I'm 38 weeks today with a breech baby and I'm booked for a section at 39+4.

chuntersalot · 09/04/2021 14:18

38 + 2 for me. This was 17 years ago. First pregnancy was twins, EMCS at 32.0. That pre term labour was put down as entirely related to the twin pregnancy so wasn't an upfront consideration for my next delivery but I do often wonder if it was on the consultants mind when turning the pages of the paper diary to book my section.

katy1111 · 09/04/2021 14:24

I was 39+2. DS was breech so they said that if I went into labour before that naturally then they'd probably do emergency c-section. Fortunately I didn't though, and all went smoothly.
