Miscarriage confusion

Hi so I’ve had a confusing time at a private scan yesterday and wondered if anyone knows what any of this means 🤦🏻‍♀️ She told me saw 2 yolk sacs but no baby or babies therefore I have miscarrried and I’ll pass the sac as a clot soon, but that’s all I know. I’ve had brown spotting for a few days which is why I went private. I have a irregular periods, some 20 day cycles, some are 35, some 14 etc so it’s all over the place, she didn’t ask if I was irregular or not though I’m not sure if it’s important

I’m really sorry, that’s the worst thing to hear at a scan. I had a private scan at 8 weeks and was told “there was some growth but no heartbeat”, which left me confused and I immediately felt like I’d done something wrong, because of the way it was phrased, so I don’t think private clinics are as informative as NHS scans. Are you in the UK? I was told I’d need a second scan at my local hospital, to be fully confirmed and then they would discuss options with me and answer my questions.
They may not have offered much information, as they were letting the news sink in for you. I doubt I would have taken in much, if they’d have told me at the scan at the time. If you don’t have a follow up scan booked, I would phone them to ask about one (on the NHS if you’re in the UK) and write a list of your questions. If the sacs aren’t showing babies, then they’re suggesting a missed miscarriage, where your body hasn’t yet registered the loss and started the bleeding to remove the pregnancy tissues that have started to form.
It hit me hard and took me a long time to wrap my head around, so based on my experience, I’d suggest you have a couple of people around you that would be the most supportive in the way that you need and that you purely focus on what you need at this time. I hope you get the answers you need.

I’m so sorry, this has happened to me three times, two of which were picked up by a private scan. Mine were also missed miscarriages. The sonographer has said on your notes to contact your EPU (Early Pregnancy Unit). This is at your local hospital, I had to do this also. Phone them up and they will make you an appointment where you will have another scan and they can go through the management options with you. As you are bleeding, you may pass the clots before your appointment, but they will still scan and can see if everything has passed. As it’s very early days, it may not be more than a regular period in terms of blood loss. Take care of yourself, it’s a horrible thing to go through.
