Harrogate District Hospital experiences...

Interested in any recent experiences of delivering at Harrogate Hospital, specifically willingness to give epidural, reassurance and availability of midwives and postnatal ward experiences. Statistically I'm more likely to end up with a C section, whether that is elective or emergency so interested in any experiences of that too, please. Had a previous section at a different hospital 15 years ago - antenatal care was ok but from the surgery onwards, it was a really unpleasant experience and I'm naturally quite anxious for things to feel different this time around... Thanks!

Hi Santatizer, hope you're well! How has your experience been at Harrogate Hospital ? :-)

Hi @Ellie93 what makes you ask? Are you due to give birth there?

Ellie93 · 14/07/2022 19:28

@FrogPool I am considering it, yes :-) I am hesitating between York and Harrogate as we're in the York area. Am from abroad originally, so not really used to the NHS system. Any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks !

Bumping an old old thread - but any other/new experiences of giving birth at Harrogate hospital please? particularly postnatal care and if you have a non vaginal delivery. Thanks!

I found care during labour to be exceptional. Post-natal care was variable - it's certainly a bit of a shock to the system going from the 1:1 personalised care of the labour ward to the postnatal ward. I found some midwives to be really kind and patient and others much less so and there were times the buzzer went unanswered, which is stressful when you're struggling to feed a premature newborn. Additionally, I needed to call the ward for advice in the few days after I brought my daughter home and they were really unhelpful.
