Possible miscarriage?

Hello,
I am 4+5. Yesterday I found out I have a possible UTI as infection & blood was found in a urine sample I gave to my doctor so I’m now on antibiotics. This may be completely unrelated to my question though!

Yesterday I got a bright red spot of blood on my tissue after I wiped. It was only small and that’s the only blood I’ve had. The past hour I’ve experienced some cramping. Last night I was almost certain I miscarried but this morning I took a pregnancy test and the positive line was very dark from 2 tests as seen in pictures. I know HCG will still be in my system but it seemed so dark. Does any one have similar experiences?

@Mctm a single blood spot is extremely unlikely to be a miscarriage. At 4+5, a miscarriage would be more like a normal period.

Now, no one can tell you that you wont miscarry, 1 in 4 pregnancies do end in miscarriage, but minor bleeding and cramping are both common in early pregnancy, and do not necessarily mean anything is wrong.

@TheDaydreamBelievers thank you for the reassurance! It’s just a waiting game I suppose

@Mctm believe me, I do know how hugely anxiety provoking it is! It might help to book a scan for approx 8 weeks to have something to break up the waiting.

Unfortunately at your stage even if you started to properly bleed, medics wont do anything (as nothing clear on a scan until 7 weeks approx).

However, I hope itll just not happen again and everything will go great!

I’ve experienced both outcomes of having a blood spot! With my miscarriage I had a few spots of blood and then I’m quickly progressed within hours. Even if I’d taken a pregnancy test at this point it would have still shown positive as the hcg would have still been in my system, so I had to wait it out and test 2 weeks after.

With this baby I had one spot of blood around 4/5 weeks and was so worried! I was even in pain and my stomach bloated loads. But the next day there was nothing and I’m now 19 weeks along with no bleeding ☺️

I know it’s very worrying but bleeding doesn’t always mean a miscarriage. It could be an irritated cervix or bleeding where the baby has implanted. I would give it a few more days and if there’s no more bleeding I wouldn’t worry! If there is, you can always contact your early pregnancy unit for advice, but bleeding in early pregnancy seems quite common ☺️

@TheDaydreamBelievers thank you, it’s just constant worry. I’ll definitely get a scan at 8 weeks though. 12/13 weeks is so so far away!

@Forest27 I’m so sorry to hear about your mc but I’m so pleased to hear you are now 19 weeks pregnant! It’s reassuring to hear someone has gone through something similar and everything turned out fine :)

Thank you! ☺️

I did worry for a week after the blood spot and it was so different to my miscarriage so I was pretty confident that it was going to be ok!

I think an early scan is a good idea. I had a scan at 6/7 weeks and one at 9 weeks at the early pregnancy unit due to my history. This really put my mind at rest! And just to add, they spotted blood inside at 9 weeks and called it bruising where the baby implanted and I was told to expect some bleeding but I never did. So again bleeding can be totally normal albeit scary!

@Forest27 ah that is reassuring to hear. Thank you for sharing your experience x
