Cyclizine or prochlorperazine?

For morning sickness. I'm 14 weeks and still struggling. GP has switched my Cyclizine for prochlorperazine to see if it works better. Has anyone tried either.. and did it help?

Hi @BertieBoo88 sorry you are struggling with your sickness. I’m 20 weeks and switched from cyclizine to prochlorperazine 2 weeks ago, I do feel there has been an improvement. I think out of 2 weeks I’ve been sick 6 times so it’s better than before as was being sick about once a day despite cyclizine.

When I feel good it’s great, I have to snack on bland foods regularly to keep nausea at bay but can now go 4 hours without food sometimes whereas couldn’t go anywhere near that long when on cyclizine. Even when I’m sick now it’s not too bad, I feel nauseous for 5 mins, vomit, then feel fine again - just a bit week and tired but perk up again after rest or food.

Really hope this change works for you, take care

@Lemongrass9 thank you. So you noticed an improvement when you switched to the Procloperazine from the Cyclizine? What dosage do you take and how many do you take a day? x

Admittedly I was never on cyclizine, but was prescribed procloperazine. It was quite good however I couldn’t stay on it, as I couldn’t stay awake whilst taking it.

On your other thread it doesn't seem that you've been taking the cyclizine properly and consistently enough to switch in my opinion..

MrsH497 · 06/04/2021 18:24

My Hg was pretty bad I did both of these and they worked very short term. Ended up on ondansetron which ultimately did work

millyme · 06/04/2021 18:51

I was prescribed both at once and it worked a treat! 3 of each every day

Thats what I'm a bit apprehensive about as I'm on day 3-4 of taking them regularly and I touches wood very warily felt reasonably ok today.. but they've put the others through and want to see how I am on them in a few days. So I don't really know what to do x

Oh really? I mentioned that and she just said "we prefer to try you on one at a time" so god knows Sad Did you have it all the way through? x

I take it you didn't explain to your GP that you've not been taking them properly then....

Yes I did. I said recently this past week I have started taking 3 a day regularly.

I started on cyclizine and it wasn't enough so the GP added ondansetron. I take both, 3x day each, so one every 2h from when I wake up (as I really need it in the mornings). I'm 8-9 weeks and expect to be taking all that for another month or so and then trying to taper off.

NC4UmpteenthTime · 07/04/2021 10:59

@BertieBoo88 well you are within your rights to hold onto them and not start them until you're ready or you think you really need them and just explain that to the GP. Check this official website out to decide what to do www.medicinesinpregnancy.org/Medicine--pregnancy/
