hi, not been on a chat site before but I'm really worried and the doctors and midwives are utterly useless!
This is my fourth pregnancy, first two were fine and my third was a missed miscarriage at 18 weeks I'm now 9 weeks pregnant and its gone wrong. a week ago I had a sort of phantom trickle and then a few days later a slight cramping feeling. On wed I got some brown spotting and doctor said womb was still closed and baby was correct size but I'd go for a scan following week. I've been bleeding with clots and mild but sharp tummy pains (looks and feels just like my normal period) today I passed what looks like two red grapefruit pips held together with some red string (sorry to be gross) pains have now stopped and bleeding is much lighter. I still feel sicky like I normally would and still got my food fads so please help whats happening? A+E and midwives keep turning me away!

Have you got a local EPU (early pg unit) you could ring? What you are experiencing does sound a bit worrying but I am absolutely no expert. Good luck.

Notquitegrownup · 10/11/2007 12:33

Oh JJ - no experience here, but didn't want your post to be ignored. This does sound worrying. I understand that if you have miscarried then you can still feel the symptoms of pregnancy as the hormones take a while to clear the system. On a positive note, a friend recently suffered from a lot of bleeding early on, and recently gave birth to a lovely little girl.

There will be others around who can advise, but things tend to be quiet on here at a weekend, so it may take a while.

So for you that the doctors/midwives are no help at such a worrying time. Hoping that there will be some practical advice around soon for you.

jenjenns · 10/11/2007 12:34

I've rang my midwife and explained everything but they still wont see me till my scan next week, hence asking other peoples advice as I'm so confused. one minute I'm positive and think it might be one of those cyst things or a torn cervix and the next I'm resigned to the fact I'm miscarrying again

hi jenjenns

am really sorry you are having such a difficult time

often , red bleeding with clots & pain can indicate a miscarriage, although some women do go on to carry a pregnancy to term after bleeding.

you certainly need checking out, only a scan will tell you for sure

if you are in severe pain, and have copious bleeding, you should go to A&E

also, one sided pain and shoulder tip pain need checking out

take care

glammama · 10/11/2007 16:55

Hi,
I'm sorry you are experiencing this. I had bleeding at the same time as you and I went to A&E. They were fantastic. I really recommend you get yourself down there, if possible.
Good luck and best wishes
G

oh jenjenns, firstly bleeding doesnt always signify a mc, i bled from 5w-21w with ds sometimes very heavily and he was fine, turned out to be cervical erosions. however this does sound worrying. i have had 5mcs and every single one was different. can you call NHS direct and insist on them getting you an appointment? i really hope that things will be ok, everything crossed for you x

glammama · 10/11/2007 16:58

I know you said A & E keep turning you away but I'm not sure they can really do that. Does your hospital have an EPU. There will be an antenatal ward which can scan you. Keep trying..

SallyInYorkshire · 10/11/2007 17:07

Hi Jenjenns
So sorry you are going through this...

I had a miscarriage with the pregnancy before this, and did some research on the internet at the time.

Basically at this stage I think the only way to tell for sure if you are miscarrying is to have a scan and see if there is a baby still in there with a heartbeat. This is best done by the proper scan people not by the on-call doctors at the weekend. Or, if you do a home pregnancy test and it is negative, you have definitely already miscarried. But it took me 2 weeks for the pregnancy test to turn negative after my miscarriage.

There is a very, very small chance it could be an ectopic pregnancy, which can be dangerous, so watch out for the warning signs mentioned by Lulumama.

Bleeding is quite common in early pregnancy and I read somewhere that 50% of women who experience bleeding in pregnancy go on to have a healthy baby.

Best wishes xx

thankyou all so much for your kind messages, I've been on the phone and managed to get a different hospital to give me a scan appoint on monday morning. It means going to the next county but I went back to my A+E today and they said there is no one available to scan me till thursday as all the appointment slots were filled. didnt know I needed an appoint for an emergency, I must remember that! anyway the bleeding seems to be slowing a bit and the pains aren't so bad, I really hope that is a good sign! x

thats good news, am thinking of you x

LuckySalem · 10/11/2007 18:09

jenjens I'm so sorry you're hospital and MW seems to not be much use.

I had bleeding earlyish on with this pregnancy although not as heavy or clottish as you said and the A&E checked the heartbeat (I was 13 weeks though) I don't know if they can do that for you as I don't know if they'd pick up the heartbeat at only 8 weeks.

I'm adding my thoughts to everyone else and will keep fingers and toes crossed that it is nothing and that the pregnancy goes well for you.

kd73 · 10/11/2007 18:33

JJ, sorry to hear of your worry. I just pitched up at the local hospital when I was worried with pregnancy. Unfortunately there are no scan facilities available at weekends. I would however contact your early pregnancy assessment first thing on Monday.

In the meantime, please try and rest as much as possible.

Good luck!

SHEENA1 · 11/11/2007 09:44

if i was you i would go to ur local maternity and demand a scan explain what is happening and also dont go away till someone has checked you over

hope evrything is ok

jenjenns · 12/11/2007 19:32

chunkypudding · 12/11/2007 20:54

hi jenjenns...

i don't have any experience of this at all, just wanted to say I'm sorry that you have had to go through this again, but keep us posted on the possible new pregnancy - that would be so good

also this will give you a bump in case anyone with more experience is around...

take care of yourself xx

NorthernLurker · 12/11/2007 21:22

This sounds like a real up and a down sort of day - I'm so sorry you have your baby had died but hope you can get some rest tonight and will pray for good news for you. When do you have to go back - I'm presuming you will need another scan?

jenjenns · 13/11/2007 08:54

thanks chunkypudding and northernlurker, I have to go back to the hospital in 10 days time for another scan. Its so weird because I always get morning sickness without fail just before I reach 6 weeks pregnant and with this one that I miscarried I didnt get anything. However last week my morning sickness and over sensitive nose started but my baby would already have been dead! My midwife said it would be a miracle if I was pregnant again because of the heavy bleeding but they cant rule it out especially because of my new symptoms! I really hope I am, my husband has said hes definately not going through any more pregnancies!

Hi jenjenns - with my first DS1 I had bleeding in the very early stages with cramping and clots but must admit that hospital and own gp were very very good and sent me for scans straight away which revealed ds still there. They sent me home to rest and did not go to work till the following week. At 8 weeks, did not feel well in the night, as soon as I got up in the morning I just knew from the sensation that blood had literally just come down with a huge clot. But DS1 still there. Hospital said unfortunately some women do bleed with a normal pregnancy. I spotted till mid pregnancy. DS1 weighed in at 9.4. With DS2 nothing at all and he weighed in at 9.6.

Hope this helps to put your mind at rest.

jenjenns · 13/11/2007 14:06

blimey, it just goes to show how different we all are! what a traumatic time you must have had. hopefully the next ten days will go quick, I'll let you all know what happens
