So according to my dates im 5+ weeks pg. (1st day af on 21/2 - 35 day cycle) nhs website says I'm 4 weeks? Just worried I may miss vital tests before 10 weeks if nhs is saying 4 and really I'm 5/6 weeks??

Any help appreciated! - thanks

When you book in with a midwife ect. They will base you on a 28 average cycle. Until your 12 weeks scan. So technically you are 5+6 however, when you go for your 12 week scan, as you have a long cycle, your dates will probably be pushed back a bit. But at least you'll be prepared

When you register with the midwife they will just want to know the first day of your last period, so to them you will be 5 weeks or so. Then it may change when you have your first scan and get pushed back a few days

Thanks @SnooperTrooper12345 @Janxyb, I had to self refer to the midwife and have to wait 2 weeks to hear back. What do you mean by they might push my dates back? On my form I put 4 weeks as thats what NHS website is saying. I'm surprised I don't have to have a blood test etc to make sure Hcg levels are all ok etc? X

@Mrsmujic Congratulations!
You don't get any routine blood tests and the midwives will not make contact before you are 8-10 weeks. Don't worry, just take care of yourself! 🙂

They don't bother with hcg ect unless they think there may be an issue.

It'd be a waste of time testing everyone as there's nothing they can do if something we're to go wrong so it isn't necessary.

By pushing your dates back we mean you will go for your 12 week scan, say at 12 weeks, but as you ovulated late, you may only be 11 weeks. So they'll put you down as that.

Did they not ask your first day of last period when self referring?
They tend to do this rather than asking how many weeks you are?

You also may not hear from them for another 4 weeks or so if you put 4 weeks down as they don't tend to contact you until around 8 weeks.

Thanks @eloiseislost @LadyBillyBon that makes sense about the blood tests I guess! It did asked for first day of last period but also asked how many weeks (so I just went by NHS due date calculator)?! My cycles are always 30-35 days. On the form it definitely said they would contact within 2 weeks. Its strange they wouldn't contact before 8 weeks as some people might not know about folic acid etc. How far along are you both? I'm just a massive worrier and have zero patience so this is so alien to me! X

@Mrsmujic I'm 13 weeks now. My first midwife appointment was over the phone due to COVID and it was at 9 weeks. The NHS website has a lot of info about early pregnancy, honestly the midwives are saying the same things, there is not a major role for them at this stage. I was anxious like you, and I still am! Try to relax and enjoy it! 🙂

40 weeks tomorrow.

They don't contact you before then because they are already usually over run and the chance of miscarriage before then is so high. So it would be kind of a waste of their time doing appointments ect for pregnancies that will end in miscarriage.
As much of a downer as that sounds
