Maternity Services- Wrexham/Crewe/Telford?

Hi we have just had our BFP!

We live within 30minutes of all of these hospitals and can't decide which will be best;
Maelor Wrexham
Leighton Crewe
Princess Royal Telford

Can anyone share any good/bad experiences to help us choose please?

I believe Telford is a midwife led unit so any complications and you’d have to be transferred to Shrewsbury. My sister had her first at Shrewsbury because her waters broke but she had no constractions. She didn’t have the best experience there. She had her second at Telford and had no issues with them.

Congratulations! I've opted for Wrexham as that's 20 minutes away. If I had baby in Shropshire we would have to go to Telford which is twice that distance. As far as I'm aware, you can't have a baby in Shrewsbury. Also, the maternity scandal has really scared me as I was a baby affected by it. I'm only 15 weeks but Wrexham have been brilliant so far. Quick to arrange scans - I've needed 3 dating scans and it's been no bother to arrange those.

From where I live I can access 2 out of the three hospitals on your list.

My only experience of Telford has been for an early scan due to bleeding. The early pregnancy unit was lovely.

Telford had a mixture of Midwife led and Consultant led care. Telford has special care too. You wouldn’t be transferred to Shrewsbury as Telford site is where woman and children wards are housed.

You do have plenty of time to decide congratulations 😄

Seems I’m out of date! My sister’s 2 are 11 and 8 now so I guess things have changed. Good luck with whatever you decide!
