I waited until 20 weeks, but didn't buy much. After 30 weeks the baby is quite likely to survive if born after that point so I did start getting the room ready and buy larger items like cot and pram.

Im 27 weeks. I bought a few baby gros and sleepsuits etc after the 20 week scan and then we are planning on buying all the big stuff after the shops open on 12th April so we can go and have a mooch round before ordering online.

Personally I wait until around 27 weeks. Just because my partner has lost 2 babies at 24 and 25 weeks.

It's personal preference though. There is no right answer

I waited till about 28 weeks.

Black Friday fell on 16 weeks for us, so we got a couple of bits and pieces like the side sleeper cot as they were a bargain. If it hadn't been the sales we probably would have waited to 20 weeks before starting to buy things once we were certain everything was ok. Spreading out the buying means also spreading out the cost, and meant I didn't hit a wall of exhaustion trying to research the best pram/cot/car seat etc all at the same time!

We picked our pram early as I thought we would end up in tier 4 after Christmas and that was something I think you benefit from seeing in person, but didn't actually buy it until a bit later. I think once the shops open up in a couple of weeks you'd be good to go :)

I'm 24 weeks and pretty much have everything apart from her pram, waiting for shops to open so I can see them and pick in person. Started getting clothes and bits from 14 weeks.

This is my 4th and I just worked out what was important and what was a waste of money. Also lockdown boredom helped, shopping was a distraction.

About 30 weeks because I waited for the sales. Up to you obviously but there will be so much clutter in your house when the baby is here I’d enjoy it for as long as possible without it! Also realistically you can get stuff delivered at very short notice so you’re not going to be stuck.

Fleetw00d · 02/04/2021 11:10

I bought a few second hand clothes and a pram and moses basket after the first scan, then nothing until 3rd trimester when it became a bit safer and also didn't want to clutter up the house!

BertieBotts · 02/04/2021 11:12

I'd start researching the big/expensive things like pram and car seat so you can keep an eye out for sales.

Make lists of what you need/want and keep an eye on local second hand sites.

Bear in mind if you order a pram or car seat or furniture from a real shop you may have to wait for it to be ordered in from the manufacturer as these items are bulky and aren't always kept in stock, especially if there are several colour options. You need to allow at least 6-8 weeks for delivery in this case.

Same as above, around 28 weeks when the pregnancy becomes viable. Not usually superstitious, but didn’t want to jinx anything! I’ve only 5 weeks to go and still cautious of getting anything out of its packaging!!

ZackaryQuack · 02/04/2021 11:16

I was about 28 weeks when I went shopping with both dm and mil, we bought clothes, bedding, moses basket and some other bits.
DH and I went a couple weeks later to get the travel system and cot.

swiftt · 02/04/2021 11:58

I got my pram at 18 weeks because I found a second hand one that was exactly what I wanted and it was such a good price. Then after 20 week scan I went a bit crazy and got furniture, and pretty much all the other big bits. 30 weeks now and I have pretty much everything.

xoxochellexoxo · 02/04/2021 12:43

Im 26 weeks and a FTM, i have pretty much everything in already, iv had my pram since i was 11 weeks purely because the one i wanted went on sale, i think its a personal choice when you decide, iv been able to spread the cost rather than one big payout
