Please Help, Rib Pain

Hi there, I'm new here and have a problem. I'm 23 weeks pregnant with my second child and on Monday i went to the day case centre at my local hospital, I have servere rib pain on my left side, near my diaphragm. The pain comes and goes but reaches its peak in the evenings, sitting down makes it worse. Lying down on my back is most comfortable. The doctors basically couldn't find anything wrong with me, when they tested me in the morning the pain wasn't too bad. They tried pressing on my ribs and other physical tests but nothing caused any pain. However when the pain appears it hurts to press on my ribs and it hurts to breathe, I can't move without excruciating pain. When I try and walk I can't put my left foot down without extreme pain in my lower left rib. But the doctors were totally clueless and sent me home and told me to take paracetamol. Its a sharp intense stitch like feeling, when I'm in the car and we turn a corner it feels like my actual rib is the problem, the pain extends across the rib. My midwife thought it was rib flare but the doctors ruled it out. Has anyone had anything similar? Just seems really odd that it eases in the morning and gets worse at night, with flare ups during the day. It's also worth noting I've had gastritis since week 5 of my pregnancy but it doesn't feel like the same pain. Would really appreciate any advice/ ideas that I can take to my local GP on Tuesday. This is literally debilitating, please help :( Thanks in advance!

I’m actually getting pains in my left rib too! For a couple weeks now but I’m 34weeks+ so I’m thinking it could be that the baby is getting bigger, went to see midwife on Tuesday and they wasn’t sure why it was hurting a lot but said the baby’s head could be there. I get it in the mornings and a lot at night too, sometimes during the day. It hurts to lay on either side, left/right also hurts when just sitting too. Sorry I can’t be much help, I’m wondering why mine hurts too. My midwife said she would let the doctors know about my left rib and get back to me. They’re going to give me another scan if it’s necessary.

Someone suggested to me it could be gall stones? Maybe bring that up with them? It’s weird they can’t work out what it is with you.

Might be gall stones linked to a full ache in the right shoulder - no idea why

Can you keep a diary of what you eat and when the pain occurs?

Try a sounding all fat for a few days and see if it helps

Avoiding fats is a good idea. The pain is on the left side however, I believe gall stone pain is felt on the right side. Anyways thanks so much for the help! :)

I get pain in my ribs after I start to eat - midwife told me it’s probably due to my stomach expanding and pushing all my organs up and into the corner.
