Sweep / Being induced

Today I had my first ever sweep at 38+5 it was a really bad experience. The 2 midwives I had were both really rude. The midwife who gave me the sweep said "is this your first sweep, when I replied yes she said oooooooo get ready it's gonna hurt and started to laugh" then just before doing the sweep she said we will try but I doubt it's going to work. I was advised when I went today I would have a discussion about induction on Friday, what will happen, what I should bring ect... Nothing was mentioned the only thing she said is "it's gonna be the same paid for you on Friday and when they induce you it feels like same just with a tablet" it's really made sick I was not nervous until now. I planned to ask lots of questions but because I was in shock of how they made me feel I just felt so stupid. I actually feel terrible. I'm so scared now. If anyone has any good induction story's please feel free to share to make me feel abit more resided.

I’ve been induced with all of my 3 children. They were all quick and uncomplicated births. Please try not to worry the birth bit is just one day, and you will be snuggling your beautiful baby before you know it.

Thank you! I do keep trying to think this time next week I should be home with him and will all be over x

I was induced with my first at 38+2.

I had the first pessary around 6pm
Watched tv in the induction ward until 11pm went to sleep.
Second pessary around 2am on monitor for 30 mins - after each pessary.
Went back to sleep. Woke at 5am contractions starting , waters broke around 9am went to delivery suite , baby born 9:59am.

So for me very efficient no dramas

Unfortunately some midwives just don't have the right people skills for the role. I met a few.

They don't induce you with a tablet, it's like a small tampon that they insert. You don't feel a thing.

I’m sorry you didn’t have a more positive experience with the midwives! If it helps, I found sweeps much more uncomfortable than when they put the induction pessaries in.

Also, you can ask them to use a numbing lubricant if you are in pain. I’d never heard of it until I was in a lot of pain after many checks and a lovely midwife suggested they use it. Game changer!

My induction was quite frustrating in that nothing happened for ages but once they broke my waters it started quickly and my labour only lasted 2.5 hours.

Good luck!
