Regular Hiccups?

Hi I’m 33 weeks, recently went to MAU on Sunday for reduce movements but CTG was normal. Baby normally hiccups up to 4 times a day but this morning between 1-6am he’s already had 3 bouts of hiccups. Just wondered what other people’s experiences are? As online the only articles seem to be American saying about cord compression but none on the NHS 😕

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I raised this with my midwife last week as I am now 36 weeks and baby gets them every day and has done for the past 3 weeks or so. She basically laughed it off and said there is so much rubbish online recently regarding hiccups being linked to cord compression/stillbirth. She said hiccups are a sign of good oxygen flow, but of course did say that if you are ever worried or anxious then just ring triage and ask to be seen.

My baby gets hiccups at least 3 or 4 times a day.
My previous 2 did too.

So I'd say it's pretty normal

With both my pregnancies my babies hiccuped a lot, my son especially- maybe 6 times a day or more. Like you I was worried about cord compression as it was the only thing I could find. All was totally fine Smile.

If you're in any doubt at all then just make sure you get checked out, however many times it's necessary.

Thanks for the reassurance ladies, glad to hear it’s normal!

@SnooperTrooper12345 and @Jsh125 did your babies hiccup a lot after they were born?

Nope. Certainly not as much as in the womb anyway

Mine used to have hiccups 5/6 times a day. She did when she came out too. I think it's pretty normal.

Not excessively I don't think but they definitely hiccuped as babies too - still do fairly often now!

This has brought back memories. My DD now 25 had hiccups a lot before birth and was then born at 35 weeks. I have fond memories of lying in bed in the middle of the night in hospital with her hiccuping away and all the other mums giggling at her.

Another one saying hiccups are perfectly normal. I'm 35 weeks tomorrow, and at the last midwife appointment I specifically asked as my baby gets hiccups All. The. Time. She said nothing to worry about, some babies just get them!
