Currently 9 weeks pregnant.

Been experiencing incredibly painful back pain. Been in and out of a&e frequently.

Learnt yesterday that I have a cyst on my kidney which mean that as the baby grows the pressure will continue / increase and the pain will get worse.

I've been sent away with paracetamol and codeine to manage it at home and decide if I want / can continue this pregnancy.

I'm quite far along it terminate it, the baby was planned but the pain I am in is unbearable. I don't know what to do.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I don’t have personal experience. That sounds so tough. Is there no way they could operate on cyst and keep pregnancy? 💐

Rubyrecka · 29/03/2021 19:07

Same as above - can’t they operate on the cyst if the pain is causing you to consider termination?!

I’d go back to my doctor and midwife tell them that and see what they say.

FruitLoopzz · 29/03/2021 19:10

I hope there’s another solution because if you were to terminate then wouldn’t the issue be present if you were to fall pregnant again? Would make more sense if there was a solution for the cyst rather than having to end the pregnancy.
Sorry don’t meant to sound blunt, unless there’s some reason they can’t fix the cyst?

You shouldn’t be taking codeine when pregnant-
Especially boy in the early stages

  • not

I am so sorry. Can you get a second opinion on how to manage it. There are pregnancy safe painkillers and I am sure if a termination is on the cards they will find a way to help. Can you afford a private consultation?

I’ve torn a ligament in my back and am 7 weeks pg. I’m taking minimal codeine and paracetamol.

I can barely walk but it’s getting better. I understand totally. The pain has been the worst thing I’ve experienced and has had me in tears so many times. I’ve given birth three times and that is nothing compared to this.

I would definitely get a second opinion before you do anything. They operate on pregnant women so I’m not sure why they’re ruling that out.

2021help · 29/03/2021 19:30

@FruitLoopzz that is my fear, that I wouldn't get pregnant again.

They seem to be reluctant to CT scan or remove the cyst because I'm pregnant.

@OverTheRainbow88 Tommy's charity says the below and it was prescribed by a doctor so hopefully is ok short term.

codeine and dihydrocodeine can be prescribed when necessary however should only be taken for short periods of time to treat pain in pregnancy. If you use them a lot, particularly at the end of your pregnancy, they may cause withdrawal symptoms or breathing problems in your baby.

@OverTheRainbow88 Codine is the only thing they prescribed me. I think it’s the third trimester that it should be avoided as the baby can have withdrawal symptoms.

Another example of women's pain not being taken seriously.

You need to know what your medical options are. Squeaky wheel time.
