Hi all,

Hope your all well during this pandemic and keeping in high spirits❤️

So I’m currently a few weeks pregnant, but I was on contraception so this pregnancy was unexpected. I’m currently in the middle of completing an apprenticeship course in childcare and I’m about 7 months into my work placement and have about a year left of the course. The plan was to try for a baby next year but obviously little bean had other plans!

I was wondering how anyone juggled an apprenticeship and a baby and am I entitled to benefits to help support my family until I finish my apprenticeship and I am able to provide for them with good pay atm I’m just under £12 grand a year and that will half with maternity pay. Also any advice on how to save because I am rubbish with saving however finding out I have a baby on the way has motivated me.

Thanks mummies and daddies,

Any advice would be amazing x

Hi @Tee10

It's not so much a question of you being able to juggle, but presumably you're doing the EYP or EYE qualification which require 20% off the job hours. If you're off on maternity you won't be able to accrue this time, even if you could do your written work.

Realistically you'd have to take a break in learning for maternity then come back and complete your hours in order to be entered for your End Point Assessment.

Congrats!

Best thing to do would be to definitely take a break in learning, as PP stated you will need your 20% OTJH to complete and gain the qualification after your EPA, contact your provider/assessor and they will arrange this when necessary!
Try and get as much off the job in as possible between now and then xx
