I am only 5 feet and 2 inches tall and 5 months gone but I already look 7 months pregnant!

I am eating every couple of hours because I can't eat big meals so I find I am always hungry!! Do you think I am just putting on weight and getting fat because of how often I am eating? My boobs have also got much bigger!

Everyone at work is also shocked at how much my bump has expanded over the past few months. There is a girl at work who is due in 2 weeks and I am almost as big as her.

Has anyone else experienced this? It is my first baby and I can't understand why my bump is so big? My legs and arms are still the same! lol!

misty - the babies size goes by your mothers sidem not the fathers. my dp was 9lb something and my baby was 7 lbs 15. you may be holding alot of water too.

sparklygothkat · 09/11/2007 12:20

I am 4ft 11 and on my profile is a pic of my bump with Callum at 27 weeks. It was all out front and felt huge.

sparklygothkat · 09/11/2007 12:21

also am a size 8-10

crokky · 09/11/2007 12:21

A shorter body will show a bump more and also, if you are slim as well, there won't be much room inside your body for the bump so it will have to poke out!

lemonaid · 09/11/2007 12:28

I am about that, bethoo. One of my community midwives went by that theory and kept tutting over my measurements and referring me to consultants, while the other (more experienced) midwife asked how big DH was and said "oh well, then."

Given that I was a svelte 7lb exactly at birth, DH was 9lb 7 and DS 10lb 5.3 I naturally subscribe to the second point of view...

Mystyamica

I have exactly the same thing, I got huge really early on and am totally fed up with people saying "Oh you are huge, is it twins, is it triplets hahahahaha" etc. I am also 5.2" around a sise 12.

mistyamica · 09/11/2007 13:50

lol! yeah i've had that too! Its one of the reasons I started this convo! Last night someone came up to me and asked me how far gone I was and guessed before I could answer. She said I must be about 7 months! I'm only 5!

I know these people mean well and its nice they are taking an interest but my self esteem is dwindling away! I feel like a house!

Heaven knows what i'll look like at 9 months! I'll probably need a wheelbarrow for my belly!

I'm only 5' and had absolutely huge bumps all out front but then I did have huge babies too........................... I had several strangers ask if I was carrying twins.................

PiratePip07 · 09/11/2007 15:55

Hi everybody,

I'm only 5'1'' (and a tiny bit more I like to think!) and a size 8, and I've just started showing....I'm only 11 weeks!! I haven't been able to eat much because ms has been constant from week 6, and I've actually lost 6lbs over the last 2 weeks. Did the rest of you start showing really early too? Dp is finding it all very amusing!

orangehead · 09/11/2007 18:30

pirate, I couldnt fit on my normal jeans from 6 weeks, from 8 weeks people start asking if Im pregant despite trying to keep it quiet. Why are people so cheecky, if I wanted them to know Id tell them

lispy · 10/11/2007 00:40

don't worry about it coming out, my midwife said gravity helps big babies come out often easier. i was also told that women have been doing it for thousands of years and if you can't do it they'll do it for you!

Sazisi · 10/11/2007 01:03

Definately, the more petite you are the bigger your bump looks
I'm tall with wide shoulders, big hands etc, and and always look small for dates pregnancy is the only thing I'm dainty at

PrettyCandles · 10/11/2007 07:07

Generally it's because you're petite - the smaller you are the less space there is for thebaby, and until about 6m all foetuses gtow at pretty much the same rate, so your 5'2" frame has to make space for the same size baby as my 5'8" frame.

That said, I always look 9m by 6m - I just do B I G.

IntergalacticWalrus · 10/11/2007 07:29

I'm not quite 5 1, and I was laways MASSIVER inboth of my pgs early on. I used to getnlots of comments

MrsNOC · 10/11/2007 09:57

I'm 5'1" & had a bump from around 10 weeks. Don't mind as v obvious that I'm pregnant & helps get a seat on public transport.

Go to pregnancy yoga classes - when I was 18 weeks another girl, who was 14 weeks, was astonished at how big my bump was.

The hosp are giving me a few extra scans...they said I defo won't be left past 40 weeks...wouldn't be able to move!!

jenjenns · 10/11/2007 18:29

I'm 5'3 and got humungous with both of my babies. I was in maternity trousers by the time I was 9 weeks pregnant! thought it must've been twins! It turned out I retained a lot of water and my children were born at 6lb 12 and 8lb 3 so maybe you've got some water retention. very glamorous!

AnguaVonUberwald · 13/11/2007 12:40

What gets me is the way that people feel completely free to comment - which they wouldn't under normal circumstances.

I had someone yesterday ask how far gone I was and then say: "Gosh you are big, aren't you"

WHY IS IT OK TO SAY THAT TO ME? I just hear - "you will never loose the weight"

PiratePip07 · 13/11/2007 13:30

Well, since my last post here on fri, I now can't get any of my trousers or skirts done up...thought I'd be ok in my fave boyfriend cut hipster jeans for a while longer but apparently not! About to hit the high street for some maternity jeans...any recommendations from fellow petites?

PiratePip07 · 13/11/2007 13:31

ps- we've got a jojo maman here...are they any good?
