High blood pressure - induction

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone was induced for high bp (not pre-eclampsia)? I’m keen to understand what your bp was over the period before they induced, how many weeks you were when induced and whether your labour went smoothly/whether you ended up with lots of intervention.

My bp is generally around 135-145/90 so low end of high, but I often get white coat syndrome which makes it spike in hospital. I’m very stressed about going in for a bp check and being told that i need to be induced immediately - I’m 37+2. Thanks in advance!

Usually if its the low end of high, they will induce around due date

Mine was very similar to yours but was put down to white coat syndrome. After about 24 weeks I was regularly sent to the antinatal day unit for my BP monitoring but it always went down after a while (can't remember how long they keep checking for!) I was sent at 39 or 40 weeks and told I would most likely be induced but because it went down once I was at the day unit they decided against it. Wasn't induced until 40+10. My induction wasn't amazing due to other complications such as meconium liqour BUT once baby is here it's soon forgotten. Have everything ready just in case then if they do decide to induce it's not a huge panic.

Have they given a blood pressure machine to take home? If not, you can buy one.

Hi all, yes i do have a bp monitor at home which shows the readings i mentioned, but when I go in my bp will spike higher to 150 or 160/90-something, until eventually coming down in triage. I’m on nifedipine 60mg/day which doesn’t seem to be doing much to bring it down... I’m not averse to being induced at 39/40 weeks, just don’t want to caught off guard at 37 or 38 weeks. Also my partner is obv worried about pre-eclampsia but protein dipsticks are always clear so far. Urgh really hate this stuff!
