Toxoplasmosis worry

Last night I had some beef mince that I thought was completely cooked through but near the end of my dinner I bit into a chunk and it was still pink in the middle, I spat it out immediately but I’m worried the rest of my dinner was undercooked.

My husband said his was fine and not to worry about it but I’ve been driving myself mad that I’ve put my baby at risk.

I’m going to phone my midwife later this morning but just wanted some advice/reassurance please.

Rare beef is very low risk for toxoplasmosis, unwashed salad, fruit and undercooked pork are more of a risk, but even that risk on the UK is tiny.

I continued to clean out the cat litter tray throughout my pregnancy and was fine, I just wash my hands very well afterwards.

You have nothing to worry about.

I remember having a massive toxoplasmosis scare in my first pregnancy. I was on my honeymoon, 16 weeks pregnant and just brushed my teeth- then I noticed a bit of MUD on my toothbrush!
The plastic bag I kept my toothbrush in must have ripped and touched muddy shoes while still in my suitcase! A panic attack and lots of mouthwash ensued. Everything was fine.
I had to buy a better toothbrush case and I clean and bag my shoes better now. It's normal to worry, in all likelihood you're absolutely fine. If you do any gardening, make sure to use gardening gloves, as there's often cat faeces in the soil. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Thank you for your replies, I feel a bit better about it now. This is my first pregnancy so I’m worrying about everything! Even before pregnancy I was extra careful with cooking meat so it’s typical it has happened now.

Hi, I wanted to know how your baby is doing now. I’m panicking about everything. Please let me know thanks

@Fate88 sorry I have only just seen this! I’m pleased to say that baby is absolutely fine and there was nothing to worry about. I did end up having a blood test to put my mind at rest but my anxiety eased up throughout the rest of the pregnancy. Wishing you all the best with yours!
