As the title says, do people have special going home outfits or do they dress their babies in a baby grow etc?

I had a favourite sleep suit and a home knitted cardi for both of mine. I chose it specially for DD and saved it for DS. I've never liked proper 'outfits' on newborns, they always look so uncomfortable.

Definitely the simplest of baby grows. Nothing frilly, lacy or with extra straps and buttons needed here.

Baby grow, cardi and hat for us. Comfy and easy to change after the journey. I wore the adult equivalent: comfy soft trousers, tshirt and cardigan.

DH chose a going home outfit for both of our DDs. Very simple baby grows but special because he chose them. More attractive than the plain ones that they lived in for weeks after that. We still have them now even though DDs are 20 and 18!

We have loads of baby grows but also a few tops and bottoms as we were given loads of baby clothes in newborn.

Exactly as above for me also.

I chose a more upmarket babygro than the ones he spent his early months in (simply for nice pictures).

I bought multi packs of basic ones which were a godsend in the event of a spectacular poo explosion (ie I could just bin them rather than wasting time failing to get stains out).

Definitely comfy clothes for yourself that are easy to get in and out of.

We put her in a baby grow. I can't remember which one. We have photos of her in a vest from the day we came home and her first cloth nappy but not the baby grow - it was in a heat wave so it didn't stay on for long!

Since my lo was a few weeks old I have dressed her. Nothing that fussy a tshirt and leggings or long sleeved vest and dungarees sort of things. I find it helps my mood if I get us both dressed and it helps separate night from day and one day from the next. We have been under lockdown since she was 5 weeks old (now 7 months!) She is a tiddler and still in a couple of 0-3months outfits so I get my use out of them! If she grew quickly I would probably make different decisions!

A special babygrow yeah and knitted cardigan

Bodysuit and sleepsuit, they just need to be comfortable.

I have a going home outfit for baby but its really just a cute white knitted trouser and cardigan set and hat. I took my first home in a nice baby grow and cardigan and hat! Its really up to, the main thing is that they are comfy and if you want to do it with a bit of style or cuteness, do it!!!

Just a cute sleepsuit that said 'home sweet home' with a cardi

Barneybear11 · 26/03/2021 14:08

We ended up staying in longer than planned so dd went home in the last clean sleep suit. I didn’t take a special outfit though.

WeAreAllCompletelyFine · 26/03/2021 14:23

We chose a special outfit for going home but as others have said it was just a 'nice' babygrow (John Lewis) and hand-knitted cardi.

They had loads of cheap/second hand babygrows and things so it was more just that we picked something new specially for them.

That said, my first was massive so it looked absolutely miniscule on him Grin and my second did a poo on hers so wore the first DC's going home outfit instead. She was a more normal size and fitted it.

I hadn't packed anything in particular for Dd1. DH had bought a babygrow with his football team on it 🙄😂 and wanted her to come home in that. So she did. Which is kind of a cute story for her.

We intended to do the same for dd2, but we'd had a shit few days trying to get discharged (then they would find another problem) so when they finally said at 9:30pm on day 5 we could go we just made a run for it! 😂 we did later put the babygrow on her to take some photos.
