Am I having a missed miscarriage?

Hi everyone
First time pregnancy here and every little thing is freaking me out.
But please can someone say if they have experienced this and if its normal or if I'm having a missed miscarriage please.

I'm 11 weeks pregnant today.
Since the day I found out I was pregnant I have had the WORST constipation to the point I couldn't remember the last time I actually went (the doctor did give me Laxido but it made me sick so I stopped taking them) and then suddenly yesterday and today I'm very loose (I'm sorry if this is OTT) and I'm managing to go quite a bit (which I'm sure you can appreciate it one aspect is quite a relief)

My stomach again since the day I found out has been rock solid and people said I looked 4 months pregnant (my stomach was relatively flat before hand) and past 4 days its not looked anything a pregnancy bump and started looking more like ive just gained a few pounds but relatively flat again.

My nausea was absolutely horrendous but now its hardly here (I know symptoms start easeing when you come up to the 2nd trimester but with everything else its making me worry) I have maybe once or twice a day i have what I can only describe as a "wave" of nausea and it last 2 secs max.

I'm having no bleeding whats so ever but I am having more discharge, very runny white discharge which I know is normal.

I'm just worried my baby has died but my body hasn't recognised it yet and this is why my constipation and big belly and bad nausea has gone but no bleeding. I'm so scared. I've never wanted something so much then this baby. Can someone please give me their experience with either similar symptoms to me or their missed miscarriage please. Thank you

I had a missed miscarriage at 16 wks with twins, I had no idea as nothing changed for me symptom wise between seeing them alive on a scan to seeing they have passed on a routine scan 3 wks later. I had to have medical intervention to have the twins as it was felt my body was not recognising they had passed. I'm sorry you are feeling like this, could you contact your midwife or Epu for reassurance?

Even if you had had a missed miscarriage, your body still recognises you as pregnant.

Symptoms change, symptoms come and go, symptoms disappear completely.

At 10 weeks, there's a good chance the belly was bloat, especially if you've been constipated and suddenly been able to go.

A missed miscarriage is exactly that. Your body misses it and thinks you're still pregnant /baby is still alive. There aren't really symptoms of it

@Crazylemon86 I'm so sorry to hear that. That's awful! I hope you're doing okay.
My midwife just told me to wait next week for my 12 week scan and try not to worry. That was it. But waiting a week is killing me inside.
I'm sorry if this is to personal to ask so please don't feel the need to answer if you don't want. But did they say how or why that happened to you?

@SnooperTrooper12345 right okay that makes sense, its just hard to believe my stomach was so big just from bloating and its just scared me. Everyone I've talked to (my friends that are mums) have all said they never experienced their symptoms come and go so fast like mine, or experienced anything like I am, so I think that's making me panick even more

The risk of mmc is fairly low. Only having a scan will give you answers.

Symptoms ease around 10wk onwards as the placenta takes over. Changes in hormones can cause diarrhea. Slowing of the digestive system and more fluid retention can give you a "false bump" in the early days, most deflat a bit then grow in to an actual bump later. Baby is far too small to give you a bump in the 1st trimester, I didn't get a bump with twins until after the 1st trimester.

Elouera · 24/03/2021 12:43

When is your 12 week scan booked in for? It musn't be too far away. You could always get a private scan if you want some reassurance.

As for the constipation, I too had it horrendously! Look up 'squatty potty'. you don't need to buy that actual brand, but anything to lift your feet off the ground and put you into a semi-squat position (whilst sitting on the loo) will help straighten out the bowel. Its makes pooing SO much easier. Even using bricks or upturned buckets will work (I've used both in desperation!)

I had a mmc at 13 weeks and my symptoms never eased off once. When pregnant with DS and DD my symptoms changed around the 11/12 week mark and if anything, with DS the nausea was such a sudden change I was adamant something had happened.
The large stomach will be from bloating. Both times I looked around 4/5 months pregnant pretty early on. Bloating eases off about now so that will be why.
The only way to know is to have your scan but like PP’s have said, it’s called a MMC because your body misses it so your symptoms changing are very unlikely to be that. Good luck

Crazylemon86 · 24/03/2021 12:57

@Laura199214 so they aren't 100% sure as post-mortem didn't come back with anything. I had bleeding from around 7 wks so they said it's unlikely the placenta implanted properly and as they grew it couldn't cope. I am now pregnant again 16+4 and so far so good 😊

Laura199214 · 24/03/2021 12:59

@Chelyanne you see i asked my midwife why I was looking so big and she said it was becuase my uterus was planning on having 2 (I had problems in the beginning so had an emergancy scan that told me at 4 weeks +5 I was having twins) but then I ended up losing one (vanishing twin syndrome I think they called it) at 6 weeks + 3 days. So I just put my bump down to that. It was just such a big bump.

@Elouera my 12 week scan is in exactly 7 days. I had a look into private scan but they are fully booked until April 4th. And funnily enough I've always used a "squatty potty" haha still didn't help

It's normal for symptoms to ease about now. I'm 11 weeks too and they've been easing for the last few days already thankfully! That was the same with my last baby too. The placenta is taking over so your sickness should start to decrease (sadly this does not seem to happen for some poor souls but for most it does).

My bloating also improved a week or so ago. My stomach is flatter. My last preg I got a small bump around 14/15 weeks I think, though some people are later. It's not possible to have a proper bump in the first trimester with your first baby. Unless maybe you are a size zero?

your symptoms sound totaly normal. No indication of miscarriage. I can't tell you if you've had an mmc, because the whole point of mmc is that you don't know it happened. You will have to wait until you can get a scan like evryeone else, sorry! :)

@Youvegotafriendinme I'm sorry i don't understand all the DS or DD talk (I'm not very tech savy and don't understand short text) 🤣 could you please explain it again

@Crazylemon86 oh I'm so sorry. I'm so glad your pregnancy now is going well. I truly hope the best for you and your little one

@FeistySheep thank you. I know its normal for symptoms to ease. I'm just so paranoid.

@SnooperTrooper12345 firstly I’d say if you’re this worried, I’d go get yourself checked out. When I had a miscarriage (not a missed one, heavy bleeding and very bad stomach cramps were the symptoms by the way) I continued to have strong pregnancy symptoms for another 2 weeks. Your body takes a while to realise it’s not pregnant. I’d say without MC symptoms (bleeding and cramping), it sounds to me like normal 11 weeks hormones getting under control. But panicking isn’t good for baby either so if you can get yourself to an EPU for some reassurance do it.
And finally just to say I’m now 30 weeks but the worrying about every little thing doesn’t stop I’m afraid, so don’t beat yourself up about being anxious - I think this is just what it’s like until they turn 18!!!

TomatoSoup69 · 24/03/2021 13:53

@Laura199214 Hey love, sorry to hear you're struggling.

I had a missed miscarriage at the end of November, my first pregnancy.

I did have diarrhoea in the final week before it was discovered, but I don't think it was related - I'm about 95% sure it was a combination of stress (my dad had just died) and a new vitamin playing havoc with my guts. The doctors also didn't think it was related. I had also been constipated the whole time, but I still had morning sickness, in fact it was worse. All my symptoms stuck around. I was 8+5 and should have been 9+1.

So far not very reassuring? Stay with me!

Skip to now. I am 11+2 and this week a lot of my symptoms have dropped out including, importantly, my constipation, and as a knock on effect my bloating has also lessened dramatically. I was sure I was getting a bump too, but I think it was mainly bloat! Also, I think being able to go to the toilet has really eased my nausea because I'm not so 'full' and gross, if you see what I mean. As another poster said, the placenta kicks in around now, and that can result in the easing of symptoms.

Do I know my baby is fine this time? Nope. My scan isn't til 13+1(!!!) but I'm choosing to believe that I am pregnant until proven otherwise, and learn to cope with the uncertainty of it all, because nothing will ever be certain. You'll get to the 12 week scan, and then there'll be some relief, and then more anxiety, same at the 20 week, then the birth, and then wow, they're outside and you're still scared. So for your own sake, try to self-soothe and hunker down for now. That's what I'm doing at least.
If an early scan will help you, go for it. Personally I'd just freak out again between the private and the 12 week scan so I'm just telling myself to keep waiting.

I know how it is to be shit scared, to really want your baby to be ok. I really feel for you. But your scan is only one more week, and then you'll know. Remember that the chances are in your favour. Most pregnancies result in a healthy baby.

Anyway, sending you support, let me know if you need anything.

TomatoSoup69 · 24/03/2021 13:57

Oh, one small thing - I took Rennie for my (pregnancy related) heartburn and it gave me crazy diarrhoea. I also panicked, and then I worked it out. Just a quick one in case you've taken anything like that recently!
