Combi/Formula feeding

Hi,
I've been in hospital with my 9 day old for 2 days due to jaundice and whilst he was under his UV lamp I couldn't pump and didn't want to breastfeed him as it would be too much time out of the lamp. I was so distressed and upset that the midwife gave me formula to give him which worked and he settled and managed to just sleep through the hospital stay.
I'm not thinking of combi feeding, only to top up when he's finished on breast and mainly at night times so my husband can help out a little bit. Does anyone have any experience, what I can expect. Baby has no problem going for breast and will take bottle so at the moment I'm not too concerned of him being confused. I want to breastfeed for as long as possible but I've also had mastitis which was horrendus and has also affected his feeding.
When I pumped I got 100ml of of one breast and 7ml out of the mastitis breast in 1 hour! They gave me SMA bottles at the hospital and that's the formula I have at home so I'm really just looking for other people's stories of topping up breast feeding with formula every now and then
Thanks

We sort of did this with DD, my milk didn't come in for a few days so I started giving her a bit of formula in the middle of the night in the hope it'd give her a fuller tummy and she'd sleep a couple of hours. Then when my milk did come in I'd try and express a few ounces so that DH could do at least one feed whilst I had a bath or got some sleep. I never used to get loads out expressing and it was a faff to have to express several times a day for one bottle so we switched to using formula once a day. As DD got older it meant I had a bit more freedom to go out or to the hairdressers as DD would quite happily drink formula from a bottle.
