Gender scan help! Can you get told wrong gender?

Help! I got a private scan at 16 weeks and she was very certain it was a girl, but looking at the photos after, I don’t see girl parts, I see boy parts. Or possibly swollen girl bits? Can gender scans be wrong?

At 15wks 4 days it may not be that accurate. Better to wait until 18wks or so, or until your 20wk NHS anomaly scan.

They are sometimes incorrect.
Wait for the anomaly scan and hope they get a clear view between the legs to confirm either way.

I had a scan at 16+4 and it was very clear that ours is a girl, even dh could see it and he's usually rubbish with scans. Our son was unmistakable at a similar gestation but some boys can hide their bits on scans.

Yes, they can be incorrect. Especially when they say girl.

My first at my 20 week scan was told a girl, I had gap scans at 28,32 and 34 weeks still a girl.
Had a scan at 36 weeks and the sonographer said "Oh, a girl? Looks like a boy to me."
I now have an 8 year old boy.

It is absolutely possible for them to tell you the wrong gender BUT usually if the sonographer is sure then you can trust it. I can see why you have doubts but remember that this is just one still shot and the person doing the scan will (or should!) have looked at lots of angles before calling it. Maybe best to wait until 20 weeks to be certain.

Looks like a girl to me just her girl parts are protruding a little. I had the same thing at my scan and at 22 weeks I’ve now had it confirmed by 3 different sonographers that it’s a girl. If they weren’t sure I doubt they’d have told you.
Of course it’s possible they’ve got it wrong but not very likely :) my scan with ds was very different looking and much much more prominent!

My friend was told she was having a boy. Big shock for her when a girl popped out :D

^ This exact thing happened with us, DS is now a teen. We paid for a 4D scan to make sure and there was no denying it then Grin

Or they been just guessing it? Please tell me I’m very down. I really want a boy and they keep telling me it’s girl in 20 / 22 weeks
