Hi All! So I am currently 39 weeks and need some advise. The last week a lot of things have been changing with my body as you can expect. Over the weekend had this burst of energy however today woke up and feel like Iv been hit by a bus. Getting slight period like pains but back pains on and off. Headache and feeling so so sick but not sure what it is or what’s best to do. Would love advice please

Sounds like something is starting but it could be either 4 hours or 4 days or 2 weeks. Difficult to say what to do. Just be aware not everyone’s waters break themselves. Monitor how close the pangs are. Get some advice from your midwife.

Thanks lovely! It’s my first so all new to me haha! So your waters don’t have to break but labour can start? X

Babies can be born in the sack complete. So no, your waters don't need to go and in fact, they don't actually go very often by themselves either.
Waters breaking before labour is around 8%.

SnooperTrooper12345 · 22/03/2021 12:41

It all sounds like your body is getting ready but as PP sad, there's no telling how long it will. Be ive had the same as you since 36/37 weeks. Currently 38 weeks and still getting the same things and pains ect.
My other 2 didn't come until almost 42 weeks and had the same, so not expecting anything

FTEngineerM · 22/03/2021 12:42

No lots (most?) of the time they get broke during labour either by your contractions or by the midwives.

Mlouisek · 22/03/2021 12:44

Thank you for your reply! Iv had on and off cramps and back pain for about 2 weeks and had like an energy burst this weekend but feel rather crappy today. congratulations honey!

@Mlouisek how are you feeling? Has your headache and sick feeling gone ?

Fleetw00d · 22/03/2021 12:59

I also feel the same way as you and it'smy first too, 39 and a half weeks pregnant and the other night really thought it was happening as had cramps and back pain but it passed after 2 hours. Think must just be baby moving herself into position but midwife has said when the cramps/pain start to increase and don't ease with a change of position then it's likely go time haha! Also I've heard you can experience majority of early labour primarily in your back if your baby is front facing so that's one thing to look out for. Apparently only 15% of people experience waters breaking so not hugely common, but pretty tell tale if it happens haha!
Just try and relax, bounce on the ball, go for walks and fingers crossed it won't be far off Smile

My headaches have slightly gone, Iv kept drinking to see if that helps and the sickness feeling has gone chick, just feel weak and like that ‘ill’ feeling x

Seems like your body is gearing up for a Big Day and sends you messages about trying o rest before the main action.
The way you feel may not be very pleasant but again,it's body's way of preparing for labour, you may start puking, you may have diarrhoea but please, stay hydrated and eat as you want to preserve your energy.
One thing that may be worrying is really bad headache and extreme nausea which may e signs of pre-eclampsia,however if you never had a problem with high BP and swelling around your ankles/face or blurred vision then rest assured that it's probably sign of impending labour.
Rest, relax, listen to what your body,if it wants you to take things slowly, then do just that.
BTW,labour does not start with waters breaking for all.Out of my 4 labour only 2 times my waters broke on its own(one time just before pushing stage, second time a while before I started contracting, but hell it was intense and speedy).
Good luck,you can do it!

Thanks for your comment lovey, glad I’m not the only one haha! He is still active so I know he’s all good in there just a lot of pressure down below. Have you ever felt like there is so much pressure that your going to 💩 yourself? 😂 Reckon going to take a nice bath and try and relax and go from there. I keep feeling one minute hot and cold so I reckon something is happening x

Thank you for your comment, that had really helped! All my ankles and hands haven’t swelled. Only had swelled ankles when I was half way but nothing since. Going to keep drinking and if it gets worst (headaches) then I’m going to ring the midwife but the sickness has gone away now thankfully

Also, my blood pressure has been fine throughout the pregnancy so hopefully that’s all good xx

Yeah the pressure in the bum area is not that pleasant haha, but at least the increase in bowel movements clears the way haha! Also the constant feeling of needing a wee even if I've only just been minutes ago haha! Bath is a good idea, think I might do the same today after my walk. Fingers crossed we don't have long to wait Smile

Mlouisek · 22/03/2021 14:04

I don’t blame you chick, I’m thinking of ringing my midwife after my bath if the headache is still there x
