If you have an elective with your second, and you go into Labour before your elective date, can you still have a section?
Ds Was born at 37 weeks but electives are much later than that and I was just wondering...

Yes, as soon as you know you're in labour, if it does happen, you ring them up and they get you straight in for a section 😊

Yes. It'll just be classed as an emergency instead. However, you'll be pretty low on the list emergency wise, so you might have to wait for a bit. Unless there's a medical reason (i.e. breech) that you need the caesarean ofc.

Thank you, I had an emergency c section before due to baby being breach and then things progressed insanely quickly and I almost missed my window! I have issues around giving birth naturally due to past trauma so it’s been on my mind as we are thinking about a second

Yes, I was booked in for section on Wednesday but she decided she couldn’t wait the extra 24 hours and came on Tuesday 🙄 it was kind of semi- emergency

It will depend. You’ll go on the list but if they are busy and don’t have enough time, they you might have to give birth vaginally.

Why don’t you have a chat with your consultant about your past trauma and have steroids so that you can have an earlier c section date to try to minimise the likelihood? I was able to agree a c section date of 37 weeks with my last baby.

Yes. I was booked in for my elective at 39 weeks but went into spontaneous labour at 37+4.

They did try to convince me to try natural labour as “my body is already half of the way there” but, whilst not fully happy about it, did let me have my section there and then. It was classed as an emergency though and I appreciate that I only had it done within a couple of hours of presenting at the hospital due to it being a very slow day on the labour ward and the night shift had just taken over

Thanks for sharing your stories. I feel so anxious when I even think about it.
Weirdly I was happy to try for a vaginal with DS but since, the thought of natural labour/vaginal birth just feels me with dread.
I had to have a TFMR sorry if that upsets anyone, and had to go through labour, so I have quite a lot of traumatic feelings attached to the idea
