False labour contractions

Hi, just wondering if anyone's been in a similar position.. So yesterday I started having what I thought was contractions.. They felt so like the real thing and were coming between 5-10 minutes apart from 10oclock in the morning then at half four in the afternoon they just completely stopped! I never experienced this with my daughter at all! Iv been having braxton hicks for weeks now and these just didn't feel like braxton hicks they felt exactly like the contractions started when I went into labour with my first. If anyone else has experienced this how long should I expect this too go on before the real deal starts...

I am in exactly the same situation, this is my 3rd but my last two labours started after my waters broke (both before due date) they are definitely not Braxton Hicks they are proper contractions but nothing comes of them. Starting to get rather sick now but just trying to conserve energy and stay relaxed as may still have another few weeks to go (I'm only 37+3)

With my first I has contractions for a whole night that stopped by the morning. They then restarted properly that evening. I was exhausted by time she arrived!

@shipperssss it's the most weirdest experience as it definetly feels like contractions doesn't it 😂😂 I'm 37 weeks so will probably have a few weeks off this also! I'm wondering if they are actually doing anything or we are just unlucky 😂😂 I'm glad im not going crazy though and not the only one!!

@Mmmmdanone it is so exhausting I have a ten and a half month old also so no rest for the wicked lol

Blimey- I couldn't have coped! Good luck!

ALittleBitofVitriol · 21/03/2021 07:53

Good luck!

With my 2nd, I had this on and off for 6 days... started on a Sunday afternoon, was sure I'd be in proper labour that night. Nope, fizzled out. Every day the same thing happened. The next Saturday morning it finally turned into a fairly easy labour 😄

I suspect he was getting into a better position. Try to be patient, but keep an eye on fetal movements just in case.

@ClaudiaRoseAitken I'm finding it really strange as I never experienced anything like this with the other two, my waters broke and I had them within 4 & 6 hours so not enjoying the not knowing! Like I say just trying to stay as relaxed as possible as I don't know how long this will go on for and I don't want to be knackered when the time actually comes.

Oh wow, I had a small gap first time round and actually found the baby bit easier than I currently find it with them being 3 & 4, so you'll be fine!

ClaudiaRoseAitken · 21/03/2021 08:27

@shipperssss how often are yours coming daily? That's mine started again. Every five too ten minutes and lasting 30-50 seconds.. Currently in the bath trying too ease them! Yeah iv heard so many good things about having them close and Iv always said the newborn stage is the easiest it's when they can start moving my daughter is into everything but her toys lol!! Constantly chasing her around the house before she has an accident lol.

@ALittleBitofVitriol ah this gives me some bit off hope hopefully they don't last too long and I have my baby soon 🤞

I seem to have 2-3 episodes of them a day, they last anywhere from an hour to around 4 hours each time. They ease when I lie down so I think they're mainly caused by pressure on my cervix from baby's head and also when baby is in a certain position.

I have been sick and had a sore tummy quite a few times in the last two days too. It's so hard to stop yourself from symptom spotting! Grin

shipperssss · 21/03/2021 08:38

@ClaudiaRoseAitken enjoy your bath! I'm literally just about to get in one too!

firstimemamma · 21/03/2021 08:48

I've only had one baby but I had what definitely felt like real contractions for 4 consecutive evenings (but always back to nothing during the day) then the real thing started in the morning.

ClaudiaRoseAitken · 21/03/2021 11:35

@shipperssss I went and got checked over at the ward im contracting every 3/4 in ten minutes but Dr examined me and I'm not dilating 🙄 he told me too go home and rest as could be like this for days lol! But I'm glad I went as I know it is actual contractions and I'm not going crazy!!

My second was the same. I had contractions for weeks before he finally came (40 + 3). Some got really regular but I have to say when it properly started it did seem different and I was more convinced it was the real deal.

If it helps, after all that I had a VERY easy labour. 5 hours, first contraction to baby out. Only 1.5 hours at hospital (after a 1 hour drive in rush hour traffic). Got in the pool... there for a few contractions... was just considering trying gas and air when my waters broke and 4 mins later I was holding my baby.

The midwife didn't think it would take long but even she was shocked.

He wasn't small either at 8lb 13oz.

Good luck, hope bubs doesn't keep you waiting too long but perhaps prepare yourself for a bit longer!

ClaudiaRoseAitken · 21/03/2021 13:28

@Muststopeating oh wow I feel for you them lasting a few weeks!! I'm really praying it's the start off something as they are wanting too induce me next weekend due too medical concerns and would love too just go spontenous so keeping my fingers crossed! Haven't eased so far🤞 that's good the labour part was easy though hopefully I'm the same!
