Hi everyone. Sincerely appreciate the inspiration, motivatatio 🤗 and advice since being on this site. I happily got my bfp at 11dpo after a sad mc in Jan. I'm over 30 and my bmi is the same, what supplements and the amount should I be taking please (from your experience). Going to book blood test on monday and than call midwife so may take a while before speaking to a professional. Thank you ❤

Hello! You'll need 5mg of folic acid (ring your doctor for this) and higher vitamin D, otherwise its all the same :) you may end up with more growth scans but I think that is for those in the "obese" category.

ILoveBountys · 20/03/2021 18:09

@Lizbb Sorry to hear about your mc Flowers

exactly as PP said; my BMI is just over 30 and I had to get a prescription for the 5mg Folic Acid and so far that's it.

Was hoping to keep as close to 30 as possible but food aversion has meant all I can face is carbs at the moment; hopefully that will pass and I'll get some veggies in soon though :)

Good luck with everything and hope everything goes well in the pregnancy xx

Lizbb · 20/03/2021 18:30

@VNttc @ILoveBountys thanks ladies for your reply. This is very much appreciated. I read if ones bmi is over 30 it's best to take 2 pills of folic acid and also baby aspirin. Thoughts please? 🙂

I’m over 30 and bmi is also just over (32).

I take 5mg folic acid. I didn’t need a prescription, I buy mine from Amazon and had been taking it all the way through ttc.

I also take a higher dose vitamin d.

I take 150mg aspirin a day but that is due to my recurrent losses (I had 4 miscarriages in the past year).

I’m also on 400mg progesterone pessaries twice a day until I’m 16 weeks, but again that is due to my previous losses.

Rosieposy89 · 20/03/2021 18:36

@Lizbb my BMI is 30 and I wasn't advised to take aspirin as I am a low risk for pre-eclampsia

Chelyanne · 20/03/2021 18:40

Congrats and good luck

I have pregnancy multivitamin, omega 3 capsules and was prescribed 5mg folic acid. I only started the extra folic acid after seeing my consultant at 16wk. GP buggered up my prescription before that, honestly felt more energetic after a week of taking it which is a win.

No aspirin, this baby follows 2 mc's but never been recommended aspirin. My consultant does want me on blood thinner injections from 28wk to 6wk after birth, baby number 6 (5th term pregnancy), BMI was 32 at booking and I'm 36 so classed high risk for clots. Had elcs with twins so had the injections before, 3 good VB's before that. I have to have glucose testing due to BMI and history of big babies too, had that in last 3 pregnancies.

Chelyanne · 20/03/2021 18:43

My consultant said I will only get growth scans if fundal height measures ahead later on, I find it odd after having a baby 4.88kg under my belt.
Some trusts offer them as standard for women with a high BMI others don't so you'll have to see what the midwife says when you see them.

ILoveBountys · 20/03/2021 18:45

@Lizbb No worries; any time!

I have been advised to take 75mg aspirin twice a day from 12 weeks (so today, ooops! thanks for the reminder) as I'm 40 and she said the asprin was to do with my age.
Not sure if you're also meant to take it due to BMI, sorry, as she only said about age.

Do you have a midwife? If so it might be worth checking if you think BMI might be a factor in taking it :) xx

Lizbb · 20/03/2021 18:55

@ILoveBountys thanks for the reply. Currently 12dpo and got my bfp yesterday so planning to call gp on Monday to book for blood test, prescribe folic and than will book for a midwife call. 🙂. I'm 36 but my bmi is around 31. Hoping to eliminate any thing that will cause a mc lol. I know it's hard to say but just wanna help myself and baby 😊

I have bmi 35 and I'm 31. Second pregnancy. Only been put on 5mg folic acid this time. I was in aspirin last time as first pregnancy high bmi again. Extra scans and consultant led.
Consultant led this time too but hoping to just be discharged after first appointment with them, we shall see. I'm only 5ft1 so I just say I'm under tall not overweight 😂

Lizbb · 20/03/2021 19:36

@LauEli 🤣🤣. I think to be on the safe side I'm gonna take 75m aspirin. Just seen one from boots. It has gast4o-resistance is that ok to take please. Gonna take 2 400mg of folic till I speak to gp on monday. Really want to avoid a mc at all cost. Had my first one at 11weeks in jan it was so hard. 🙏🙏

@Lizbb wow so super new BPF; so exciting!

Ask the drs for the folic acid prescription when you call for an appt- even if they can't do the blood straight away ask if they can prescribe over the phone; just to get you and little one on that because it helps with lots of things... no idea why you need a prescription for it, but there must be a reason.

I was taking pregnacare with lower dose folic acid with vitamin D etc because I thought my BMI was under 30 (ha! wishful thinking) until about week 8 so at least I took something but wish I'd known sooner :)

I hope everything goes well for you this time xx

crobo87 · 20/03/2021 23:12

I had my 12 week appointment last week and my bmi is 35. I've been advised to start taking aspirin but a consultant is going to ring me on Monday to tell me how much etc. Otherwise I've just been taking folic acid & vitamin D

Lizbb · 21/03/2021 04:28

@ILoveBountys thank u. Will do and I will jump on to pregnacare. Shall i stop taking b complex
@crobo87 thank you very helpful.

Congrats ladies and I pray you all have successful delivery 🙏🙏

@ILoveBountys @LauEli Happy sunday ladies. Sorry do you mind if I ask. So I had mild pressure pain at my side 2 days ago or so, the pain (not to painful just like minor pressure or movement) hard to explain has now moved towards the front of the tummy. Has this happen to anyone or does anyone know what it could be. Thanks 🙂

WisteriaSuperior · 21/03/2021 11:02

I had a bmi of 31, not advised to take high dose of folic just the normal. 36wks currently, no defects spotted. Xx

Lizbb · 21/03/2021 11:51

Sorry TMI.
Sorry guys I'm also getting alot of cm. (Somewhat light yellow in colour) is this normal. Read a bit on it about acting as protection internally. Has anyone else had it. Thanks 😊

@Lizbb hey sorry I don’t know! I’ve had various weird twinges / pangs/ feeling of pulled muscles etc. but I don’t remember specifically from that early on. I know I had some around implantation but again can’t remember exactly what it felt like.
If it’s something you’re worried about you could speak with the dr when you call about bloods & folic acid.

I’m just a bit nervous to say ‘I had some it was nothing’ because my experience might not be yours and I’d be devastated if you were worried but relied on my word when you should have spoken to a dr!

Hope that ok & makes sense - also hope the pressure / pain is nothing & you & baby are all good x

Lizbb · 21/03/2021 12:58

@ILoveBountys hey hun thanks so much. Read the pain may be due to changes, expansion. It does painfully hurt which is good as I saw responses if it did. And I read the cum acts as protection against bateria. Pray that's the case. Will bring it up with doc. Thank you hun 🙂

ILoveBountys · 21/03/2021 16:10

@Lizbb no worries :) yeah that makes sense; I had a whole load of weird stomach feelings but talk to the dr about anything you're not sure about - or your midwife when you get one x

BlondePotter · 21/03/2021 17:27

I'm.32 and BMI was 32.5 on booking in and no-one mentioned a higher dose of folic acid to me. I just took the normal amount of anything and 29 weeks now with no issues

Lizbb · 21/03/2021 18:32

@blondePotter thanks hun. Will contact gp tomorrow. Hows everything going congrats 🙂. R u on other medication? Can you remember your 1st trimester symptoms? I've just started taking pregnacare today and my wee is so bright yellow. Thought it was cos of the asparagus I had but read about vit b 🤣

Morning everyone. The pain from yesterday has gone. Thank God. Help p/s😊. @ILoveBountys and others, so just spoke to gp and he has prescribed the folic. He said the usual, for me to walk around, eat healthy, dont overstrain etc but I asked for my blood test (hcg, progesterone) to be tested juat to make sure all is well but he said cos I've only had the 1 mc it's not recommended for now. Imagine that. So I've just booked mw and hoping she may help or maybe I should order a kit online. Not sure. Any thoughts

Lizbb · 22/03/2021 12:16

Sorry I think i mean hcg to make sure progesterone levels are high. Lol
