Measuring 3 days behind... worried

Hi all I have had two previous mmc and I'm afraid it is happening again... I know exactly when I ovulated and I got my bfp at 10dpo so can't have implanted late... I went for a private scan and based on ovulation I should have been 6 weeks 3 days but was measuring at 4.7mm (6weeks) with heartbeat at 109bpm... I know that isn't a great hb either...anyone measured behind when they knew there dates exactly??

At my early scan ( i waited 8 weeks though to be sure I'd see something conclusive).
The report clearly says i am measuring 7+2 (+/- 5 days).
Scans aren't that precise. Especially so early on when everything is to the mm and depends on the view etc... that's why there give this 5 days margin of error.
I also had a loss before and also knew exactly when i conceived since i was doing opks and had bfp at 10 dpo, and i know you are anxious but 3 days is nothing!
Your embryo hasn't read the book... some grow bit slower some faster. Doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong.
I am not familiar with HB at this stage. Could it be that it's just starting?
Some pregnancies don't have a HB measurable at this gestation, more of a flutter so i would also take this measurement with caution.

Could you have a repeat scan in 2 weeks? To put your mind at ease?

SunnySideUp2020 · 20/03/2021 08:10

Oh and my 5 days discrepancy at the beginning, became 3 days at 10 weeks and by 12w scan it matches my LMP which again is weird because i ovulate late in the cycle!
I am 38 weeks now :)

Emsnewmum · 20/03/2021 08:11

Please do try not to worry I know easier said than done! But at this point your baby is shooting small sp measurements are definitely not acc. I knew my ov date and measured about a week out at my early scan ( I'd had mc and mcc) dates changed again at a later scan and again at 12 week scan and now I'm at the date I expected exactly! X

EmzyD · 20/03/2021 08:15

I was in a similar situation for my early scan - I thought I was 7w exactly and early scan dated me at 6+2. Had my 12 week scan yesterday and am dated as 13+1 so all caught up to where I originally thought I should be. At my early scan they warned me the dating was pretty inaccurate. Hopefully this helps!

Notabs · 21/03/2021 09:33

Aw pps have said, scan measurements are not always accurate. The difference between my private and NHS scan was 5 days xx

lilymty · 21/03/2021 10:47

I was 100% sure of my dates when I went for my 6 week scan but I was only measuring 4 weeks. I'm now 35+2 so I really wouldn't worry about a few days although I know that's easier said than done.

SnooperTrooper12345 · 21/03/2021 10:53

Easier said than done not to worry but this is why they wait until 12 weeks to give you a date properly.
It's so hard to measure as it's literally less than millimetres in it. So any slight adjustment on the screen when measuring can change it by days and days!

Muststopeating · 21/03/2021 11:00

I am sorry anout your previous losses and I can only imagine how anxious that makes you.

I haven't been through this but I had to get growth scans with my DS because at 20 week scan he was 'too big'. At the next scan he was 'too small'. And then big again... and so in.

The best thing a consultant told me was that although the sonographer will make it all sound precise and mm perfect, an US meausrement isn't like measuring the length of a pen with a ruler, it is much more like looking at something on the other side of the room and estimating how long it is. A slight inaccuracy in measurements can mean days or weeks out!

I won't say try not to worry as it drives me nuts, but I hope you can find some peace in the many many similar stories with positive outcomes. Good luck!

zzzebra · 21/03/2021 11:05

I would try not to worry about it, it's completely normal.

With both my first and my current pregnant I had early scans. At both they took multiple measurements and the date varied by 5-6days.

With my first I was dated back by a week at my early scan and then by an extra day at my 12 week scan. She was born early and at 8oz 6lb, I'm very petite so I'm pretty sure the scan dates were wrong and my dates were right.

Lbyrne121 · 21/03/2021 11:35

Thanks everyone for your comments... I actually couldn't wait any longer and have a scan today... last scan was on Tuesday and I was measuring 4.7mm so hopefully my dates are more further along and heartbeat is better....

Lbyrne121 · 21/03/2021 14:36

Just back from scan measuring 6 weeks 5 days (8.5mm) not much growth from 4.7mm Hmm

OP posts:
Rumples · 21/03/2021 15:17

Measurements at this stage are so hard as it's so tiny.

I read that in early pregnancy the baby grows approx 1mm a day so your growth sounds about right from Tuesday to today?

Vomadetroit · 21/03/2021 15:31

Three days really is nothing!
You need to chill out a bit OP honestly for your own sake more than anything, it’s not healthy

Lbyrne121 · 21/03/2021 15:33

@Rumples I thought that myself but it was 5 days so should it not have been near 9.7mm if it is 1mm a day?

OP posts:
Smurf123 · 21/03/2021 15:38

@Lbyrne121 this second scan seems to tie in with scan on Tuesday does it not? Measured 6 weeks on Tuesday and today is 5 days later measuring 6w5 days?
Was there a good heartbeat today? Sorry your worrying hopefully you just had your dates a bit out

Lbyrne121 · 21/03/2021 15:43

@Smurf123 does seem to just read that should be a mm a day and it went from 4.7mm to 8.3mm so less than 5mm. They didn't measure hb but did see a flicker, just with all my mmc I was always measuring 3-4 days behind... Will try and relax and just hope it will all work out

OP posts:
Rumples · 21/03/2021 15:45

@Lbyrne121

1mm is so so tiny.

If it helps I was measuring 2.9mm and was dated as 6+3 by the EPU as they went off the size of the sac as the baby was so small it's hard to be 100% accurate.

Mammyofasuperbaby · 21/03/2021 15:49

I had this after 3 consecutive losses. Early scan and baby was measuring 8 days behind my dates.
My son was born at 37+2 via elcs after static growth. However peadiatrics changed his age again. So he went from 37 to 36 weeks (premature) 🤔.
So my dates moved by 2 weeks in my pregnancy

Holyforkingshirtball · 21/03/2021 15:57

I had IVF so I knew pretty much up the hour the time of conception. At my 8 week scan ds was measuring 7 + 1 (so 6 days small). At 12 week scan he was 3 days small (they changed my due date based on this because apparently my dates might not be accurate 🤔). He's now wandering round destroying the living room!

FTEngineerM · 21/03/2021 16:03

This pregnancy LMP put me at 8 +2 when I went for a scan, they dated at 7 +2 !!!!! I was petrified thinking that’s it, it’s over, like so many of us.

They I bloody fell down the stairs.

At 12 week scan I should have been 11+2 but measured 11+5 so actually caught up nearly half a week.

As others have said they’re so tiny at that stage a little change in position and they could miss a mm off each end and that would mean 2 days out according to the 1mm per day. It’s so tough, especially if you’ve experienced MNC before. I hope this is the good news you want at the next scan.

Lbyrne121 · 31/03/2021 17:09

just wanted to update this thread as I hate it when they are never updated.. Unfortunately this didn't end well for me went for a scan on Monday and baby measured 7 weeks 5 days were I should have been 8 weeks 1 days (still 3 days behind) however there was no heartbeat..

I found it very difficult to deal with as lots of reassurance about dates measuring behind so was really full of hope but unfortunately not for me..

I don't seem to be able to pass my miscarriages naturally and my fertility specialist has advised against a DnC given I have already have two and said another one can effect my lining. He said try the medicated route first.. So going to the EPAU tomorrow so they can confirm what my private scan showed and then take medication hopefully that clears everything and wont need a DnC..
