Does vomiting usually occur before 12 weeks?

I'm 12 weeks tomorrow. I've had debilitating, all day nausea. Do you think it's likely to progress any more now and turn to vomiting or do you think that would've happened by now? Pregnancy is meant to be a happy time but it's been just so miserable!

I think vomiting would normally have started by now if it was going to. I felt very nauseous until about week 12/13 but was never sick. The second trimester was a fair bit better but then the heartburn and reflux starts. I’m now in the third trimester and uncomfortable with feet poking me in my ribs and relaxin (hormones) making my hips ache. This is my first and I think the happiness mostly comes from the knowledge that we are growing a child... a new human who we will adore. But pregnancy itself ... it’s exhausting and hard work in my experience.
Hang in there... you are nearly in the second trimester and you should start to feel a lot better.

I'd say that usually if you're going to hurl you'll be hurling by 7 weeks or so, yes. Most people's nausea has reduced or disappeared by about 14 weeks, except for the unlucky souls who have it right through.

@LittleTiger007 Did you find the nausea cleared gradually or overnight? I can cope with heartburn and being uncomfortable I just can't handle this nausea! x

Mine was the same as yours OP terrible nausea but no sickness. It went off around 14 weeks so I'd say you were hopefully coming out the other end of it! Its really horrible isn't it.

missScarborough · 19/03/2021 15:11

@Starlive23 it's been absolutely horrendous. If someone had offered to knock me out for weeks rather than have to live through it I would've happily obliged! It's just constant nausea where I feel like I'm on the edge of vomiting all the time and my anti sickness tablets just make me feel so tired and useless.
Did you find it ended quickly at 14 weeks or did it fade gradually? x

I don't know if you've investigated but there's more than one anti-emetic available that might help you more. Sorry you're feeling rotten.

missScarborough · 19/03/2021 15:22

@YouBoggleMyMind I was given cyclizine which makes me tired so I spoke to my doctor and she gave me Phernagan(?) which gave me a massive headache and made me tired too! I don't know whether to ask her again if there's any others x

It cleared pretty gradually but was gone definitely within a week or so. There were occasional spells of feeling nauseous after that but they would pass after an hour or so. It seems like a distant memory now that I’m at 31 weeks... but it was very real for 12-13 weeks. You’re nearly there op!

YouBoggleMyMind · 19/03/2021 15:40

Try the bottom two of these. My SIL didn't get on with cyclizine either.

I would’ve thought it would’ve happened by now!
In my pregnancy I was sick three times between 12 and 15 weeks but I was also sick a few times before 12 weeks so that doesn’t really mean anything

Starlive23 · 19/03/2021 22:24

@missScarborough it went off over the course of a week, so pretty quickly to be honest then by about week 16 it was gone totally!
Hopefully you will be the same, its so rough feeling bad for weeks and weeks on end
