Leaking fluid at 18 weeks

Hi,

I'm 18 weeks along with DS #2

So far, uneventful pregnancy.. I'm under a consultant due to last baby being big and having too much water

Today, I went for a pee. About 2 minutes after I'd completely finished I felt a gush of water leak from me, a patch about the same size as my hand of clear non-smelling fluid.

It continued to trickle for about ten minutes, I've put a pad on just incase.

No pains, nothing at all. I haven't felt this baby move yet so I can't monitor his movements.

I can't get hold of my midwife, does this seem like I've just peed myself or should I be more concerned?

Call the pregnancy unit at your local hospital if you can't get hold of your midwife x

Will do, DH just thinks I hadn't finished my pee. I'd be mortified if that's all it was, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Haven't experienced this in either pregnancy. Left a message with midwife and will call Mat unit if no one calls me back soon

Definitely best to be checked either way, you might get a scan so an extra peek at your baby too 😊👏🏼

Im a midwife and would strongly advise calling your maternity unit now and not waiting for a call back...midwives can be in busy clinics/visits for hours. If it was trickling for that long, I'd be more concerned that it was amniotic fluid. Keep any pads with fluid on to show them at the hospital.

Been on hold for an hour, hopefully someone will pick up soon.

If you've been on hold an hour I'd ring 111 or go to A&E, you'll be seen quickly x

Are you still getting any gushes? Trickling?? I'd second the pp suggestion 111 and/or a and e.

Please update us with how you get on! Sending best wishes x

Hi,

I'm at the emergency pregnancy unit now. No more gushes, but some slight trickling. Haven't soaked a pad but it's certainly wet.

I've had my observations taken and given a sample, I'm still waiting to be seen and they don't seem overly concerned which I'm taking as a good sign.

I'm hoping everything will be fine. I hope I've just peed myself, but ultimately it did not feel like pee and I had no control. It's very strange.

Glad you're being seen, sending lots of positive vibes!

Marvelwife123 · 19/03/2021 18:48

Glad they are checking you over. Midwifes would rather see you even it’s pee to triple check so don’t feel silly! Hoping it’s pee and not waters 🤞🤞

Well good news is it wasn't my waters!

It took 4 doctors to find DS heartbeat, they couldn't find it on a Doppler and two doctors had to perform an ultrasound but he's definetly breathing but very stubborn.

They were concerned about my heartbeat being too fast and have told me to rest up (I'm a student nurse and I have an 18 month old, what's rest? Haha)

But DH has took tomorrow off work to give me a bit of help.

They said I have thrush and they seen a lot of fluid and said it was watery discharge and agreed I was right to come in as it did resemble clear fluid and was a hell of a lot of it and it definetly wasn't pee.

DS was tucked in, right in at the back of me and didn't want to be seen easily.
