Excess Saliva - 12 weeks

Hello all

I’m miserable. I’ve had extreme nausea and excess saliva production since week 5. I thought by now it would ease off but it’s there all day long. I chew gum a lot and even keep gum at the side of my mouth all night long to absorb the saliva. I’m so scared I’ll have this until the end, I don’t think I can cope 😔

Hang in there OP, I had a few weeks of excess saliva and was really annoying but eventually went away. If you are at 12 weeks you are nearly through the worst.

@Analysethat when did yours go away? Mines has been as strong as it was when it began and showing no signs on easing. I actually don’t want to continue my summer with this condition x

I had this until about 16 weeks and unrelenting nausea until about 14. It is definitely better now although still probably more than usual. Even though it's horrid, it is normal unfortunately. Chewing gum will increase production so it might be worth stopping that! You could speak with your GP as there are some meds which can reduce production if it's really bad.

@MGee123 if I don’t chew gum my mouth is filled with water and I have to keep spitting out every few mins which is hugely impractical. I thought the gum was helping absorb all the excess water x

No it will definitely stimulate saliva production unfortunately, and it can't absorb fluid. I would try to stop it if you can and just swallow what is in your mouth?
