Heartbeat but bleeding, cramping and clots

My mw had me at almost 9 weeks pregnant using the date of my last period. I started with very light bleeding 2 nights ago where it was just on wiping and it was light pink. Yesterday this turned red and only slightly heavier with some pains so went for a private scan as EPU wouldn't see me. They couldn't find a pregnancy on the scan so I went to the emergency gynaecology unit and they did bloods which confirmed my pregnancy and an internal exam showed my cervix was still closed. They booked me for a scan today but then last night I passed a number of blood clots which were dark red/brown (sorry TMI). These had stopped by the morning and I had no pain so EPU were happy for me to wait until my scheduled scan this afternoon. Anyways had a transvaginal scan which to my surprised showed a heartbeat and was measuring at 5 and half/6 weeks which doesn't surprise me as my periods aren't reliable. Since the internal scan I've had strong cramping in my lower abdomen and back and the bleeding has gotten heavier and I have clots again. I was so over the moon after the scan and within hours I'm worried sick and back to square one :( rang EPU and they said to monitor it but I'm basically looking for anyones experience if they've had something similar to this? My first pregnancy I had no bleeding whatsoever or cramping. Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated xx

A lady I worked with bled heavily throughout the first 20 weeks of her pregnancy. She was often admitted to hospital as an inpatient as the blood loss was so heavy. The doctors really didn't expect it to have a happy ending. Her DD is now 16.
It's really hard as it can go either way at this stage. Lots of people have bleeding and / or cramps in early pregnancy. Some go on to have healthy babies, others sadly don't. But there's absolutely nothing you can do at this point except wait and that's really, really hard. Wishing you lots of luck!

Thanks for the reply, I was so positive after my scan yesterday especially as they told me the risk of miscarriage decreases after seeing a heartbeat but I guess I have to just wait it out and hope the bleeding and pains come to a stop soon. It's so stressful!

Hi just wondered what the outcome was? I'm in a similar situation.

@rubye sorry to hear that. Unfortunately mine didn’t have a good ending and I miscarried within hours of seeing my babies heartbeat. I did however read a few positive stories of people experiencing similar things. Just ring your EPU and hopefully they can book you in for another scan. Praying it’s a positive outcome but just rest as much as possible, it’s what I found helped with the pain both physically and mentally.
