As above - as the nesting phase seems to have really begun for me, I suddenly feel so much more alert to areas where I'd maybe been a bit lax (/gross!) previously.

So for example, the following bad habits I had until about a week ago until a sudden nesting moment of clarity:

  • Eating whilst sitting on my phone...and sometimes eating pieces of chocolate that my husband has put ON my phone whilst I'm working (hasn't gone down well me feeding back that whilst I used to think this was cute, now its forbidden in case he makes me or baby sick - but of course I do still want the chocolate!)
  • Maintaining that the 5 second rule applies (particularly when the food in question is one of my favourites, or particularly expensive...this one is going to be painful to stop!)
  • In general I used to clean the house weekly at most. Now I have an urge to clean multiple times daily, and am thinking I may need to switch up my cleaning products because after a week of constant cleaning I feel like all I can taste is method rhubarb anti-bac!
  • I'm not sure I'd ever cleaned our door handles before, oops!

Was I just gross or has anyone else had the same kind of eureka moment?! If its not just me - what else have you stopped/ changed?

I went through a nesting phase where I basically cleaned out the whole house and redone the garden. I distinctly remember washing the bathroom ceiling 😂

BUT you may want to actually drop the standards once the baby arrives when it comes to housework. You will not have the time/energy to clean several times a day.
I follow a cleaning system to keep on top of the house, but it's a battle (my DS is now 4 months) .

I got the decluttering bug and cleaned my walls lol. It's was pretty gross how much muck came off the walls, many children much mess. I've calmed down a bit now though and back to normal which is still quite a lot of cleaning with a large family.

Nesting for sure is a thing, but after baby is actually here then you need to halt that stuff.

  1. you won't have time or energy and if you do there are better things to spend time on.
  2. I knew someone who cleaned instead of looking after her baby. That's fucked up.
  3. said woman's kids had a shot immune system from all the bleach they were surrounded with from birth. They were literally permanently ill.

Don't worry about it. Just live!

I kept intending to clean more... and then never quite got round to it! I was a bit more careful with some stuff, especially in 1st trimester - the one that sticks out is washing apples before eating them. I don't think I'd ever bothered to do that before but probably should've done! No nesting instincts whatsoever though... I keep seeing that the skirting boards are a bit dusty on the stairs and then thinking I'll do something about it another time and leaving it another week. Which is exactly what I would've done before being PG.

I'm 30 weeks and can honestly say I would eat the chocolate on the phone. My house is clean and tidy but I haven't panicked excessively about bugs because I am pregnant. I do have a tendency to become anxious when I over think so I'm just not even letting the thought of becoming sick enter my head, it's too stressful to stress over things that are not likely to happen IMO. The nesting and getting things organised I can relate too but otherwise, I'm the same person 😂

Bambam2019 · 17/03/2021 18:25

Yep I nested. I like a clean and tidy home
Anyway (which is difficult as I just don’t have as much time/energy now). Several times I was doing a deep clean of the bathroom or cleaning the oven at 10pm at night. Hoovered every day and not the 3 ish times a week I would normally. Cleaned my car out which was the biggest thing- have horses so normally just accept it’s never going to be that clean, but for about a month it really was!

Watto1 · 17/03/2021 18:29

DH took over dealing with the cat’s litter tray but apart from that I don’t think anything changed for me.

PurpleCurtain · 17/03/2021 19:13

Interesting, glad some of you are/ were the same! And dont worry I'm under no illusions that I can keep up the daily cleaning, but it currently feels a good thing being a bit more hygienic, and it passes the time!

@abeanbaked glad you would eat the chocolate, given I did too for the first 22 weeks of this pregnancy Grin

30 weeks and not had any nesting urges at all!
OH does the cleaning and I do the cooking normally

Sansa87 · 17/03/2021 19:40

I am awful at housework

Since about 28 weeks nesting properly kicked in. I’m cleaning skirting boards, disinfecting door handles, crying on the kitchen floor because I can’t get the grout in between the tiles perfect 😂😂 and don’t get me started on the smell of duck pine toilet cleaner. Both toilets get cleaned twice a day because the smell is that amazing. I almost want to take it to hospital with me relaxing aromatherapy oils 😬😂

I really enjoy it, & will be sad when the nesting urges go, but I am lucky I’ve been medically suspended because it’s definitely kept me occupied whilst shielding at home.

howmanyroads · 17/03/2021 19:45

Haven't changed my habits at all I don't think!

However am trying to declutter and deep clean the whole house now at 38 weeks and it just fills me with rage! Wish I could be that person that enjoys cleaning. Currently halfway through the kitchen and hating every second!

Someone came out to do a full valet on our car today then ended up not doing it because it was raining. So that has added to my rage Grin

PurpleCurtain · 17/03/2021 20:41

Oh and maybe I should confess why I'm particularly conscious about the eating food off my phone thing... I may or may not have previously routinely used my phone on the loo Blush
