I know everyone is different and of course every baby is different but I’m just wondering what everybody’s movements are like with an Anterior placenta?

I’m 24.5 weeks, I tend to feel the Baby in the evening and sometimes the morning, movements aren’t strong as such.

Does an anterior placenta mean you feel the baby move less due to the position or it takes longer to feel the movements? Keen to know everyone else’s experiences

I'm 23 + 2 with a fundal anterior placenta and feeling almost nothing to be honest. I did have a few slight movements last Friday evening but nothing since until this evening when I've just had a few more. It's definitely not strong. My last pregnancy was twins and one of those was an anterior placenta but I was feeling both babies move by 21. 5 weeks that time. I have a feeling its going to be an anxious third trimester monitoring movements 😞

Frazzled2207 · 16/03/2021 21:08

I had one. I felt nothing at all until 22 weeks and not much really until 25 weeks

ezydays · 16/03/2021 21:15

I have one and tbh I feel more movements with this pregnancy than my previous with posterior placements.

But this is my third pregnancy and I started feeling constant movements since 17 weeks

LayingLow · 16/03/2021 21:17

I'm now 30 weeks with baby number 4 but first time with anterior placenta. I didnt really feel any definite strong "kicks" or movements or any pattern of movement until about 26 weeks! But with my others I felt them as early as 14 weeks, with posterior placenta. So dont worry x

Nat4392 · 16/03/2021 21:21

I have an anterior placenta, I felt first flutters around 18 weeks and proper kicks from around 22 weeks. After 25 weeks I’d feel movement all the time. I honestly couldn’t imagine what having a posterior placenta feels like as I feel so much movement now by 30 weeks.

MintGreenLife · 16/03/2021 21:29

I’m 20 weeks with my first and anterior placenta. Much to my surprise I’ve felt movement since 16 weeks. By 18 weeks I’ve been feeling proper kicks, but I don’t really feel the gentle movements, only the kicks and sometimes a bit of pressure x

flappityflippers1 · 16/03/2021 21:35

I’m 36 weeks, anterior placenta - I feel this one tons more than I ever did with my son (his placenta was at the top). It’s like he’s auditioning as a drummer in a metal band 😳 the movements are genuinely painful at times and it feels like he’s scrunching the whole placenta up and trying to rip it out 🤢

Luckyelephant1 · 16/03/2021 21:59

I have an anterior placenta. First felt flutters around 19.5 weeks but at the time I wasn't sure if it was gas or movements lol. By mid week 20 they were more frequent and I could definitely tell they were movements. Now at 23 weeks I can feel stronger kicks, but I mainly feel it in the mornings and evenings.

saamantha19881 · 17/03/2021 07:44

I am a FTM with anterior placenta. I got flutters before 21 weeks and by week 23 I get big old kicks and punches that can even be felt outside!

Grognonne · 17/03/2021 07:46

31 weeks now and feels like they are having a party in there!! Try not to worry, it will come soon.

Sweetpea12 · 17/03/2021 09:52

I have anterior placenta and I’ve felt movement from about 17 weeks at first it felt like gurgling so I would lift my top and watch the movement and then I could feel it as flutters. Now I’m 22 weeks I can feel what I’m convinced is a kick but it’s very faint and usually in the same spot below my belly button. I’m hoping for it to get stronger soon but I also notice movement pattern always around 5.40 am and again after 10am then usually not much until 7-11pm

Sitchervice · 17/03/2021 10:13

I have one, I'm now 27 weeks and he tends to kick in the low area just below it. It shouldn't stop you feeling kicks but they may come later and softer. I didn't really feel anything until 23 weeks and OH has only just started feeling them outside.

Everyone is different though, so someone's experience may not be the same as someone else.

3babylady · 17/03/2021 10:30

I have anterior placenta currently and am 23 weeks, have been feeling movement for about a week now went from absolutely nothing at all to strong kicks very close to my hips, switch a kick tracking app I've been able to sort of develop a pattern as of right now every 2-3 hours I feel kicks which fits inauthentic before or after eating and drinking, lots of strong kicks when I'm lying in bed too.
After 2 posterior placentas previously and feeling movement between 14-16 weeks it was so odd feeling nothing felt like such a long time.

Meomeomeo · 17/03/2021 10:44

It depends on where your anterior placenta is. For movements, just think of it as an extra cushion so you may not feel the baby as much if she kicks the placenta vs elsewhere. I started to feel defined movements @19 weeks. My placenta is anterior but high and baby was breech. So up until 28 weeks I mostly feel the movements below my belly button. However I’m now 31 weeks, baby is head down, placenta moved up even higher so I feel more movements in the middle/bottom of the upper half of my tummy if that makes sense.

Inmypjsagain · 17/03/2021 11:02

I’ve found this thread really interesting. I have an anterior placenta and am a FTM at 19 weeks, without a doubt I am feeling movements in my lower stomach. It’s like a twitchy flutter and quite active in the evenings, but not a kick. I felt a something on a few occasions last week but wasn’t expecting to feel much more. I suppose it must be down to positioning but I feel like I must be imagining it!

Smurf123 · 17/03/2021 11:18

I'm 19w 6days with an anterior placenta and I'm so glad to read of others not feeling many / any movements until later.. The last couple of days I think I've felt a couple of movements but more like a quiver or the likes... And out quite far to the side.. Don't know for sure it's movement I think maybe it is? But it's few and far between if I'm honest. 20 week scan isn't for another 10 days so fingers crossed everything is alright

Fleetw00d · 17/03/2021 11:22

I have a high anterior placenta and didn't really anything until 24 weeks. Even now at 38 weeks sometimes I can see my stomach moving quite dramatically but can't actually feel it like I can when she kicks somewhere else!

Vogue1992 · 18/03/2021 19:30

Very interesting to read everyone else’s experiences, each pregnancy is of course different.

I worry that I have quiet days in comparison to others, yesterday Baby didn’t stop moving and now today hardly anything. I have a feeling this is going to be a very long and worrisome third trimester.

I spoke to the Early Maternity Unit who have asked me to come up so they can check heartbeat, I’m waiting to be seen now. Hoping everything is OK and that baby’s movements are cushioned by the placenta x

Hope all OK @Vogue1992 good your getting checked out

buckingmad · 18/03/2021 19:45

I’m 20 weeks with my first and anterior placenta and I’ve felt movement since about 17 weeks! Really ramped up the last week and OH has felt a few now. Wasn’t expecting to feel them so early and so strong and often but guess everyone is just different.

Fleetw00d · 18/03/2021 20:05

Good luck OP! I also had days when baby's movements were quieter than usual, more often than not when I was busy, sometimes it coincided with rib pain and a sudden bump growth so put it down to growth spurts!
Whenever that happened I would have a snack and glass of water and just take an hour or two lying on my left hand side and count her movements, each time she would wake up and have a bit of a party which out my mind at rest. Midwife said anything over 10 movements in that hour was fine!

Fleetw00d · 18/03/2021 20:06

Although saying that I probably didn't start doing that until about 28/30 weeks, movements before that really fluctuated but at anout 28/30 weeks she settled into a routine.
