12 weeks and no break from nausea

Hi everyone,

I have just made it to the 12 week mark, scan on Thursday!

I am so drained and feel awful every day, i haven’t enjoyed food since around week 5. I also had shingles at week 8 and I think that’s still ongoing. I was signed off for 2 weeks but really struggling still and so worried about going back next week.

I’ve also started getting really bad anxiety for Thursday and I’m just making myself feel worse!

I keep reading symptoms should be easing up soon and just wondering if anyone had bad nausea that started to go off after 12 weeks. I’m just hoping I wake up one day and feel a bit better! X

Congratulations!

Nausea can be relentless. I'm afraid to say that I had non-stop nausea all day every day and all night long until 16+2. Then I did wake up and it disappeared.

lucymagoo · 15/03/2021 18:46

Mine started at 5 weeks and eased up around 13/14 Smile

SRyellow · 15/03/2021 18:50

@Chanel05 @lucymagoo thank you both. I can’t wait for that day when it’s gone! I just didn’t expect to feel this bad, so many of my friends had no symptoms at all, very lucky!

@SRyellow sorry you are having a shitty time - I am exactly the same. Have my scan Weds and I'm around 13 weeks at the moment. It's miserable isn't it! Last time, I started to feel less bad at 15 weeks then much better at 16 weeks.

MeadowHay · 15/03/2021 19:40

I had HG and started to see improvements from 12 weeks but it was very gradual, I wasn't back at work properly til 20 weeks. I was almost back to normal by about 24 weeks.

lightand · 15/03/2021 19:44

Could it be twins? Higher nausea rate with twins.

SRyellow · 16/03/2021 11:46

@Choclover89 sorry to hear you’re suffering too, it’s so hard! I just keep hoping that I’m through the worst of it! It’s just made even harder keeping it quiet so you can’t explain to people why you feel so bad! I’ve told family but too scared to tell anyone else ahead of the scan!

@lightand I had a private scan at 8 weeks and I think it’s just the one!

I'm feeling something close to despair today- keep thinking this has to be the worst of it then the next day feeling even worse Sad surely it can't go on much longer!

MeadowHay · 16/03/2021 13:21

Ah sorry to hear that, I know how you feel. It does take a big toll on your mental health. Check out the Pregnancy Sickness Support charity, they have a forum and a peer mentoring scheme which I'm using at the moment for support. My mental health was awful due to the HG in my first pregnancy, it's much better this time with peer support and earlier medical intervention for the sickness.

YukoandHiro · 16/03/2021 13:25

As others have said the 16 week point was when it really started to lift for me with both pregnancies.

Hang in there - it is grim, but your carefree middle trimester is just around the corner!

SRyellow · 16/03/2021 14:06

Thanks everyone and thank you @MeadowHay I will look at that. It really does effect you mentally as I feel like I can’t even do my job.

@Choclover89 I was like you yesterday, I ended up just laying in bed from 8pm feeling awful but I seem to be having a slightly better day today. I really hope it gets better for you soon too. You just feel like no one can help. The only slight relief I’m getting is from ginger tea, even though I have to build myself up to drink it as I’m completely off hot drinks! And travel sickness bands but still some days they don’t even help.

So sorry so many are suffering, though selfishly it does make me feel better that I’m not the only one. 10 weeks here and feeling really rotten, have had really bad sickness dr put me on medication last week and some days they do seem to help but others or evenings I’m still struggling. My first pregnancy I had nausea and sickness till about 16 weeks.

HaNNaHC92 · 16/03/2021 14:10

On all three of my pregnancies I had hyperemis. It started between 5-6 weeks and eased up between 20-25 weeks.

Choclover89 · 16/03/2021 14:24

Glad you are having a better day @SRyellow and I hope it continues!

@positivebex sorry to hear you are struggling too.

I've caved and asked for a call back from the GP but I feel a bit silly because I'm 13 weeks and shouldn't have long to go now. But I'm still losing weight and feeling really weak and light headed all day now so thought I should get some advice?

YukoandHiro · 16/03/2021 14:26

OP, if you need it take some more time off just do it.... your pregnancy comes first!

BlueberryPancake21 · 16/03/2021 15:46

Mine started to ease around 16wks and was gone by about 26wks. Hopefully it will improve but don't want you losing hope if you don't start feeling better straight away. Your GP can give you anti-sickness tablets that are safe in pregnancy - you don't have to suffer. Sorry about the shingles as well - that's crap. Although good to know that there's no chicken pox risk for your baby!

SRyellow · 16/03/2021 16:11

@Choclover89 let us know how you get on, it’s not silly at all as it massively impacts day to day life and even getting through another week is hard! Where I’m not actually being sick, I didn’t know if there’s anything that could help with just the nausea?

@BlueberryPancake21 you had a tough time! Such a long time to feel ill. The shingles has made things worse but the Drs didn’t seem too concerned, it’s just drained me a bit more!

Choclover89 · 17/03/2021 17:36

@SRyellow the nausea is the worst part I think! I'm nearly 13 weeks (had scan today) and mine just keeps getting worse - was being sick in my classroom sink while the kids were on the playground today Confused

My scan took a while so missed my doctors appointment. I don't think there's anything they'd be able to do anyway so never mind.

FTEngineerM · 17/03/2021 17:44

I’m only feeling good this week 14 weeks.

It’s awful but it will end.

I can’t remember it being this bad last time 😬

Defmy · 17/03/2021 17:45

Mine never stopped until 15 weeks and got steadily worse until that point, but then it did completely cease.

Himawarigirl · 17/03/2021 17:46

Mine didn’t go until 6 months in first time round. Hope yours goes sooner, but it will go!

Ellax · 18/03/2021 08:44

I feel for you it’s really tough... mine was relentless until about 18 weeks I think?x

SRyellow · 19/03/2021 07:06

@Choclover89 I had my scan yesterday so at least that was a relief. I spoke to the midwife about the nausea and she just said hopefully it will start to ease and just try to eat little and often but that hasn’t helped so far! It’s helped me a bit seeing the baby as I keep visualising the image everytime I feel sick.

That must be so hard teaching with this nausea! Trying to work when your feeling ill is the worst part!

Thanks everyone, I really hope by the time in the second trimester that it gets easier 🙏 x

Congratulations, glad your scan went well, i think it does help after you've had the scan, feels a bit more justified the feeling rubbish. Sorry to hear you're feeling so rough, it's really hard! It started to ease around 14 weeks for me, now 16+5 and feeling almost normal. It is so tough at the time but i honestly think you've made it past the worst Flowers
