Subchoironic bleed 6 weeks

Hi everyone, looking for some advice.

I am 6 weeks today and last week I started to have some rust coloured spotting, it was very light (just visible when wiping) and I had the same with my first pregnancy, so didn’t worry too much but my GP referred me to the EPU anyway. The spotting stopped for a few days then became more red and as I hadn’t received my EPU appointment so booked a private scan for that day. The sonographer saw a heart beat and confirmed the size was ok, saw a sac and yolk etc, but she also saw a 17mm subchoironic bleed in my uterus (not in the sac). She told me to wait 7-10 days before going back so she could check progress of the baby and bleed.

The next day the EPU contacted me and asked me to go in for a scan, which I decided to do thinking it’s more clinical than the private scan and that it’s best the NHS is looped in incase something has gone wrong, my GP also confirmed there was no risk in having two scans close together. The EPU sonographer couldn’t see any bleeding and she also confirmed all looked fine. But she struggled to find one of my ovaries and pushed very firmly down on my lower tummy whilst using the internal ultrasound which caused me a lot of discomfort at the time. Last night I had some mild cramping and today I’ve had more blood. Still not enough to fill a pad, but more than last week and this time it’s very red, fresh blood. It seems to have gradually increased, certainly since I had the scan yesterday.

I’m worried the EPU sonographer didn’t see the bleed for some reason and her pushing has made it worse. Is this likely? Should I go back to the EPU or the private clinic? I don’t think I can cope with waiting for it to get worse over the next week.

I have this. Was identified after I reported bleeding to my dr which started at 13dpo and continues on and off now at 11.5 weeks. I dont know why the EPU sonographer couldn't see the hematoma but I definitely bled more after the scans. I would call the EPU tomorrow and explain. Did you tell them about your private scan? If so, did she offer any explanation as to why she couldn't see it?

@ummm21 Thanks for your reply. Sorry you’re having the same, has yours fluctuated? Mine started rusty coloured and very little, and is now like the end of a period, very red /dark and not diluted, but still not enough to soak a pad, just drops. Do you also have cramps? I have some very minor cramps (but also a bit constipated so can’t work out if that’s what I’m feeling).

Yes - I wondered if the scans could have caused the bleeding to increase, the spotting stopped for me after I stopped doing Peloton so I wondered if it was affected by movement.

No I didn’t mention the private scan, it was all a bit of a whirlwind tbh, she didn’t let me get a word in! I wish I had said, I think I was just a bit anxious and not thinking straight.

I think I’ll do as you say and call the EPU, tell them about the private scan and the additional bleeding, see if they can offer an explanation.

Ask for another scan. I had bleeding all through the first 13 weeks and there was quite a big pool of blood which could be seen on the scan. For some reason, it mysteriously disappeared after 13 weeks and pregnancy was fine since.

BlindMelon123 · 14/03/2021 23:00

@blueshoes thank you, do you think I should have another scan so soon? St this stage they are internal and I’m concerned it seems to be increasing the bleeding. Perhaps it’s just speeding it up but I’m now concerned it’s making things worse.

I’m glad yours cleared up, I was told that can happen, fingers crossed that happens for me too

I know it is torture to wait. You are only 6 weeks. See if you can hold off for another 2-4 weeks if the spotting is just on and off and does not get significantly worse. I had a massive bleed around 12 weeks and thought I lost the baby for sure but she still hung on. It is still very early days. Your baby is hanging on as best it can.

Ummm21 · 15/03/2021 06:39

Yes mine varied from bright red like a period to dark brown and everything in between. They said mine is close to my cervix so I will likely have more until it disappears or baby fills out my uterus more. There's no harm ringing but they might say to wait and see.

Thanks everyone, I called the private clinic today and spoke to a sonographer. She said the bleed can move so maybe that’s why the doctor in the EPU didn’t see it. She also reiterated they usually disperse, but will go back in a week to check if it has got bigger or smaller. Incidentally I haven’t had much spotting today, so perhaps the scans just sped things up Confused

Good, fingers crossed. I have always found the pregnancy lark a bit weird and random. So much we cannot control.

I am 9+3 and went for private scan last week, she said I have this 1.5x0.9 but that it is nothing to worry about and will probably be reabsorbed by 12 week scan.

She asked if I had had any bleeding but I haven't had anything at all x

Nia18 · 17/03/2021 15:50

Just to try to reassure you, I've had bleeding on all 3 of my pregnancies. Im 30+5 now and my bleed was seen on my 11 week scan. I bled about a week later but everything was fine.

BlindMelon123 · 20/03/2021 22:28

Thanks for all the reassuring comments! I went back on Friday for a follow up at the private clinic and the bleed has grown which isn’t what I was expecting, but apparently it’s nothing to worry about and will likely reabsorb. The position of it is in front of the sac which I was told is positive as behind can cause issues. The spotting has stopped for now but I have been taking it easy (although difficult with a toddler!). I was given the option of progesterone but I’m not sure it’s necessary as the pregnancy seems to be progressing and there was a strong heartbeat.
