35 weeks never had leaking breasts

Basically just what the title says... I'm 35 weeks (FTM) and I've never experienced any colostrum or leaking breasts during this pregnancy. In fact, my breasts haven't gotten much bigger at all. I'm hoping to breastfeed and worried that this is a sign that I might not be able to. Anyone have any similar experience and go on to breastfeed normally? Just need a bit of reassurance I guess. Thanks a lot!

I never had this either, with my first or second pregnancy. I breastfed both babies Smile

I never leaked at all in pregnancy but had no difficulty at all breastfeeding. Please don't worry Flowers

I too didn’t have anything and had a premature baby which I breastfed successfully (after expressing for tube feeding).

lljkk · 14/03/2021 15:55

Never leaked -- breastfed 4 babies quite successfully.

Jay1289 · 14/03/2021 16:01

Same as posters. I never had any leaking and I even tried to hand express colostrum so many times- I think I literally got a single drop once and that was it! But as soon as baby was born she was able to drink fine! I definitely needed that baby interaction and they still respond better when baby is there even now.

Haggisfish · 14/03/2021 16:02

I never leaked and fed fine.

OverTheRainbow88 · 14/03/2021 16:04

I never leaked and BF both for 1.5 years with no problems at all. They didn’t even leak once babies born.

LoveYouHoneybear · 14/03/2021 16:04

Wow, thank you all so much for sharing! Feeling a lot better about this. Smile

Yep, same here. Never any pre-baby leakage and breastfed my 4 fine once they had arrived.

WhoAreYah · 14/03/2021 16:05

I didn’t either. Bf both babies past 1 year with no problems.

Though some people do leak before birth he hormone prolactin that triggers milk production isn't normally realised until you give birth that why the golden hour is important straight after birth with lots of skin to skin to get it all going.

Honestly the amount you leak or not doesn't indicate how much you have or will have. Breast feeding is like a factory not a warehouse- milk isn't made and stored it's made on demand. That's why responsive feeding is so important.

Crimblecrumble1990 · 14/03/2021 16:11

Never had any leakage but could squeeze drops of colostrum out near the end. Boobs didn't change in size until milk came in once baby was born. And even then they didn't get much bigger, sadly!

CornishTiger · 14/03/2021 16:12

Same here and I successfully fed all of my babies.

annlee3817 · 15/03/2021 08:23

No leaks at all, and struggled to get colostrum when I was pumping to try and induce labour at 40 weeks. Once DD arrived I actually had over supply, milk went mental, and I fed her for eight months

Blerg · 15/03/2021 08:26

Same here. Didn’t leak at all during pregnancy or bfing two babies to 2/3 years. I ended up with a load of breast pads I wasn’t sure what to do with. I couldn’t express really either which was annoying but we coped.

SnuggyBuggy · 15/03/2021 08:28

I was the same both times, no breast changes at all during pregnancy, nothing until the milk came in afterwards. It can be a sign of insufficient glandular tissue but most people with the signs don't actually have IGT and will have a good supply of milk.

20viona · 15/03/2021 08:29

I never got any milk or colostrum until about 7 days after giving birth. Luckily I didn't want to breastfeed and it just stopped in a couple of days.

GintyMcGinty · 15/03/2021 08:30

I never had leaking and breastfed two babies with no problems

ashrosea · 15/03/2021 08:34

Never leaked. Currently breastfeeding a 10 month old. Nothing to worry about at all! Smile

User0ne · 15/03/2021 08:46

I ebf dc1&2, now expecting dc3. No leaking in any pregnancy and very little after birth either.

I tandem fed dc1&2 for a while, no issues with weight gain, so my supply must be fine and I expect yours will be too.

If you haven't got a copy I'd really recommend the book "the food of love" by Kate Evans. It's got lots of good advice and "troubleshooting" information which given the difficulty getting face to face support ATM is really important.

Be prepared to spend 4m on the sofa too: it can feel like very hard work.

LifeIsBusy · 15/03/2021 08:46

Currently 35 weeks too! 2nd pregnancy and I never leaked with my first. Then my milk arrived post birth and I had to wear a bra with pads to bed every night for at least a month 😂.

bumbledeedum · 15/03/2021 11:29

I've never leaked during pregnancy, I rarely leaked even in the early days of feeding (nor felt engorged or felt letdown) and I'm still feeding my 2 year old now. Everyone's experiences are different and not leaking doesn't mean you'll have any issues feeding.
