Heavy bleeding

Has anyone had heavy bleeding during pregnancy, and did you ever find out what was causing it?

Since 13 weeks, I've had bleeding like a medium flow period, but usually dark brown rather than red. The bleeding is all day every day, with no sign of it stopping. I'm now 16+ weeks.

I've had scans which show the baby seems ok, but no one can tell me what's causing the bleeding or whether or not it's something I should be concerned about.

Has anyone else had anything like this?

Hi, I had this with my DS. I was admitted countless times to be monitored and he was always ok in there kicking away whenever they scanned me. I had a really big bleed at 27 weeks and I was told they might have to deliver him as soon as I got to the hospital, but again he was absolutely fine. I got to 37 weeks, went into labour and he’s now 7 years old

Following. I’m currently 14 weeks. Have been bleeding for the last four. No one knows why/ seems to care to be honest. It’s so scary and usettling.
I hope all is ok with you & remains that way.

I had scans every two weeks due to my bleeding, don’t be afraid to push for answers or reassurance

I've had bleeding on and off since Saturday night - went to A&E and they checked my cervix which was closed tight and checked for UTI and took some bloods.
Nothing found - just waiting on the swab results now.
I went for a private scan on Sunday because they didn't even check for a heartbeat on Saturday night and I was worried. Baby looked fine, very active and no sign of bleeding in there.

So no idea what's causing it and it's a bit frustrating because there doesn't seem to be anything in particular that triggers the bleeding :( I'm 15+2 today and just sending you a handhold as well because it is rubbish and scary x

So I found out I'm pregnant last week and went for a HCG Blood test on Monday which confirmed the pregnancy which is an absolute miracle because I've been infertile for 10 years following 5 operations on my Fallopian tubes and before that I'd had 7 miscarriages. Finally my miracle happened and I couldn't contain my happiness as I was told I'd need ivf to have a baby.

Anyway, I was offered an early scan yesterday but they couldn't see the sack yet because I'm only about 5 weeks but they could see that my womb lining was nice and thick which was a great sign.

9am This morning I went for my 2nd HCG blood test. By 3pm I received a call from the EPU confirming that my HCG level had gone from 301 to 800. I looked at my partner and said "babe it's actually happening" and we both smiled.

LITERALLY 5 minutes later I went to the bathroom and blood was dripping into the toilet, I sat there crying my eyes out and called him into the bathroom confused as to how this could possibly happen.

I've read so many stories about other women experiencing bleeding and there being no problems but on a Google search it seems to always say heavy bleeding is mostly a due to miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy.

I just can't get my head around it my levels were great and surely they would've seen if there was anything wrong with my womb during the scan yesterday?

I just spoke to 111 and a lovely out of hours doctor prayed for me over the phone and said she's confident that I'll carry full term. She told me that the same thing happened to her but she clotted for the first 6months of her pregnancy and now she has twin girls.

That's giving me hope but I'm still so anxious. How much blood is considered as too much and how light does it have to be in colour to be classed as pink because it's not clear anywhere online.

It looks light and a bit dark and one minute it's coming out into the toilet, next minute it's only coming out in a pad.

Anyone else going or gone through this?

I had this with my last baby, the consultant said that it was more than lightly to be implantation bleeding where you can get a bit of splattering when the fertilized egg embeds deep into lining of the uterus and hits a vein as it does so, causing a bit of bleeding. I was nearly 7weeks when this happened to me, the scans showed that everything was fine, and the bleeding stopped a few days later.
DD was delivered at 38weeks by c-section, due to a transverse extended Breech presentation, her placenta was quite low at the time, and she weighed 7lb. 14ozs, and was fine.

Hi. When you say a bit of bleeding what do you mean? Everyone's view on a bit and a a lot will most likely differ

So sorry for the graphic images ladies but it could be useful to compare Especially those who are in are first few weeks of pregnancy in comparison to those who experienced the same thing but have seen babies progress during scans.

The pictures attached are all from yesterday between 3pm - 11pm. No clotting and the blood isn't thick in consistency but as you can see it is very bright in colour.

Also update from last night.
My partner and I waited anxiously for over 2 hours in A&E to be discharged without any physical examination or any explanation which I think is appalling especially for someone with a medical history like mine. I'm at high risk of miscarriages as I've had 7 in the past. I was also infertile for 10 years following major surgery. You would've thought they would take it a bit more seriously but they didn't seem to be all that bothered.

The doctor there told me to wait until my 7th week scan for answers. So in other words "you won't know if your baby is ok or not for another 2 weeks but hang in there!"

Luckily the EPU has organised another HCG bloods on Tuesday so the suspense will only be for a few days.

mrssunshinexxx · 01/04/2021 14:52

So sorry you are going through this @keani I really hope your pregnancy goes well x

keani · 01/04/2021 14:54

Thank you @mrssunshinexxx xx

@SavannahLands I meant to @ you in my last comment 🤦🏽‍♀️

HE90 · 03/07/2021 20:20

@keani how did things work out for you in the end if you don’t mind me asking?
I am having bleeding and had some awful cramps but these stopped after a few hours. I had a scan at EPU but I am only 5 weeks so too early to see anything, just the sac. I now have to wait 2 weeks for another scan and I’m so anxious. I’ve read so many reassuring stories but also lots of worrying ones.
