Plus Size Pregnancy

Hello, I wanted to ask a few questions about plus size pregnancies my BMI is 36 so I’m a size 14 bottoms and a 16-18 lol because I’m really short and so on, but I carry all my weight in my belly, like my arms are bigger and legs of course but I’m all belly lol.
I’m 15 weeks today I am but there’s no sign of anything going on, I’ve had my 12 week scan all was fine! Baby all good, but my stomach is still really soft, like even where my underwear line is there’s no hardening and things and I don’t really have anyone to talk to about it, I’m the 2nd person in my group of friends to get pregnant and the first of my friends is really skinny so she had a lush bump at 15 weeks lol, small and round but not even the bottom of my stomach has started getting hard and things, I know everyone is different and all bodies are different but I don’t have any other plus size pregnant ladies to speak to so I don’t know what’s normal so I’m a bit worried that there’s no changes to belly at all, I know there wouldn’t be any sign of a baby bump at all yet but just worried it’s not even feeling hard and things sorry just want some ladies to speak to that are in the same boat please it would mean the world!
Thank you all in advance...

Hi, my bmi with my first was slightly higher than yours (38)
And I carry all my weight on my stomach too.
But I didn't actually show until around 32 weeks. I wasn't noticeably pregnant to others until around 36 weeks

SnooperTrooper12345 · 12/03/2021 09:58

Everyone is different. There's no need to worry 😊

helloimnew21 · 12/03/2021 10:12

@SnooperTrooper12345 ahh that’s really reassuring to know!! Thank you, yeah definitely I knew I wasn’t going to show for ages and ages now, I did lose about 2 stone before I got pregnant we didn’t expect to catch so quick, did the bottom of your stomach get hard at any point? I’ve got no sign of that 😩 so I’ve been like bending and waking up on my stomach and so on because It’s not uncomfortable (can tell it’s my first pregnancy lol) just don’t know anyone else that’s been plus size and pregnant expect for a few people but I’m not close enough with them to ask questions lol, thank you again ☺️

Hi OP!
Congratulations on your pregnancy ☺️

My BMI was around 38 when I got pregnant, I too worried about not showing or that people would just think I had gotten fatter.

About 18 weeks I could definitely see changes in my stomach, it was clear to me and my closest that it was a baby bump but to others it was probably only noticeable at around 25ish weeks.

I'll attach pics, one at 18 weeks and one at 24/25 weeks ☺️

helloimnew21 · 12/03/2021 10:27

@JenIsAGem hello! Thank you so much!
Ahh your bump is beautiful! That’s how I would love my bump to look when I have one, stunning!
I’ve just turned 15 weeks today but feeling absolutely nothing and I knew it wouldn’t happen yet but I lie on my back to feel the bottom of my belly and it’s still all soft at the moment and doesn’t feel hard and because the anxiety is real at the moment I’m just getting worried at the moment that it’s not getting hard at the bottom 😩
Thank you for sharing pictures! X

If it's a 1st baby it's normal to hide baby well as your muscles and ligaments are stronger, having a thicker layer of fat around your middle will hide it for longer too. You will look and feel more pregnant later on so don't worry.

My BMI was 32 at booking. I've had people mention I'm showing now at 17+3wk. I feel pretty small atm as my last term pregnancy was twins and I had a distinctive bump at this point despite having a bmi of 36 at their booking. I had bad ab separation last time and they popped a couple weeks ago, fine if I brace my core but stick out more when relaxed. This is baby 6 for us so everything relaxed super early. I always carry high and my flab sags to the bottom as I have a lot of excess skin after our huge twins. I feel I just look like I've put on a bit of timber atm rather than looking pregnant.

helloimnew21 · 12/03/2021 10:38

@Chelyanne yeah I’ve heard that so that’s what I’m holding on to at the moment that it’s my first so I’m hiding it all lol
Ahh that’s lush! I would love to be showing but I know it’s no where near possible at the moment with my belly fat, I’m just concerned that even when I lie flat on my back and feel the bottom of my stomach it’s all still soft so I’m just worried because it’s no where near hard and still really soft as if all is still normal 😩

Biggest singleton bump vs double bump at 36wk

The boy was 10lb 12oz @ 40+5wk & twin girls 8lb 5oz & 8lb 11oz @ 38wk.

Trust me... nobody want to endure a double bump like that lol but they were worth every second.

Our baby hides away when I lay flat and bladder empty. If you lay flat with a full bladder you'll soon start to feel your uterus peeking through.

@helloimnew21 I'm pear shaped so not quite the same but I find the top of my stomach always feels solid first. Under my belly button looks and feels like I've been eating too much cake (which isn't a lie). I'm 16 weeks and whilst I do have a bump, it can easily be mistaken for lockdown weight.x

The bottom part of my stomach never got hard, no, even with a bump. It only got hard in the middle of my stomach further up.
I slept on my stomach most of my first pregnancy. It's no harm to baby to sleep on your front, don't worry

I'm on my 3rd pregnancy (past 10 weeks anyway)
Currently almost 37 weeks and the bottom of my stomach still isn't hard.
It might not go hard because the fat I hold there won't disappear, it will still be there ❤️

helloimnew21 · 12/03/2021 11:06

Thank you everyone for your reassuring words means a lot thank you!
I was told by my friend that the bottom of her stomach went hard and I panicked as I do and all I can think is the worst (awful anxiety and intrusive thoughts since being pregnant) but thank you, I’m hoping that In a couple of weeks my stomach will start to go hard and I’ll have some peace of mind baby is in there!
@Chelyanne your bumps are incredible!! They look amazing! 😍
@SnooperTrooper12345 thank you 💖

15 weeks here too and my bmi was 32 at booking in. I am pear shaped though and carry all my weight in my thighs, hips and bum. This pregnancy I do have a roundness to my tummy so it is noticeable to me but in baggy clothes I can get away with just looking overweight. I look forward to the day my bump sticks out more than my bumSmile

My tummy is still quite soft yet and doesn't get harder till much later on. Try not to compare yourself to anyone else x

helloimnew21 · 13/03/2021 11:00

@Sceptre86 ahh I’m so glad you can see roundness to your stomach, lush!!
I’m trying my best not to compare 😩 finding it hard as there’s no change going on to my stomach at the moment and it’s just a bit worrying to me at the moment just wish that my stomach would at least start to feel hard just fearing the worst!! X
