the chemist gave me glycerin sweets - you can get it in liquid form as well - soothes the throat, but only a bit!

Coolmama · 06/11/2007 18:27

the only thing you can take is a little paracetomel IIRC - none of the other stuff, unfortunately. You will just kind of have to stick through it.

pinkteddy · 06/11/2007 18:27

I think all you can safely take is paracetamol. A lot of the cold remedies contain phenylephrine which I am not sure is safe to take in pregnancy. You could try google to check if desperate! HTH

Coolmama · 06/11/2007 18:27

sorry, paracetemol

hot lemon and honey
hot ginger (Bottlegreen do a good cordial)

Go to health food shop and ask for elderberry tincture - it's supposed to help alleviate symptoms and cut the 'life' of cough and cold.

Other than that, eat garlic, chillis, onions, leeks and ginger. All good cold fighting foods....not much help if you are feeling morning sicky or suffering from indigestion though...

Just found this on netdoctor. 'Although paracetamol is generally considered safe for occasional use during pregnancy, the safety of phenylephrine has not been established. Therefore, as with all medicines, this medicine (beechams flu plus) should not be taken during pregnancy unless your doctor considers the expected benefit is greater than any possible risk to the developing baby. Seek medical advice from your doctor before taking this medicine if you are pregnant.'

how about cough sweets?

Check what is in them - could ask pharmacist. From memory they said no to most things when I was pregnant!

BellaBear · 06/11/2007 18:46

cough sweets usually say not for pregnancy _ I checked most of them. That's why I used glycerin sweets (which are basically just sugar). Ask a pharmacist for advice.

Hope you feel better soon!
