My neighbour told me everyother day works best and then a friend told me that she only had sex on her peak days. What do you ladies reckon - after all - don't want to have to have sex more than i need too - haha

Once - in my case both times.

ruva · 06/11/2007 16:45

Hi, Maya kaya
I would say everyday- having been trying for two years and was told it was not possible after a laprosopy was told to go for ivf, paid for it and was about to start the cycle when i found out i was pregnant-now because of low lying placenta at 23 weeks was told not to shag until baby is born thats next feb 08 so i say have fun trying and good luck.

nailpolish · 06/11/2007 16:46

once is sufficient

daisynova · 06/11/2007 16:47

It only takes the once to get pregnant!

But if you want to plan then loads of people swear by the ovulation thingies you can buy at the chemists.

chocolateteapot · 06/11/2007 16:47

I find that if you do it once at the time it would be most inconvient to be pregnant, then that does the job nicely.

lemonaid · 06/11/2007 16:48

I've been pregnant four times (two miscarriages, one DS, one currently 19 weeks pregnant). For two of those once did it for us (DH was working away a lot). The other two (DH based closer to home) were every 2-3 days around mid-cycle and to personal taste the rest of the time.

SweetFA · 06/11/2007 16:54

If you are regular, work out 14 days before your next period - your 'discharge' may be thicker than usual at this time.
Make love lots up to 5 days before this date, especially the day before it. Should be your best bet.
If not regular, you could use an ovulation test kit or just do it as much as possible and hope for the best1

SweetFA · 06/11/2007 16:56

Btw you can't get preggers when there's not an egg about to appear, which is around the 14th day before your period.
Sperm can hang around for 5 days or so, eggs can't so before the middle of your cycle is best!

Thanks ladies - reckon i will just go with the flow then. Must admit - having sex often has worked in my favour -DH does stuff around the house without me having to ask him twice - men! heehee. Thanks again

walkingwomb · 06/11/2007 17:08

twice a day

Sweetiesandcakes · 06/11/2007 17:09

twice a day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what a horrid thought - heehee

PurlyQueen · 06/11/2007 17:32

I'd go for lots of sex throughout the month.
I was diagnosed with PCOS four years ag I tried that 'sex only while ovulating' thing and hated it because it felt too clinical.
Guess what happened?
I got pregnant (after years of trying) by having sex during a 'non fertile' phase of my cycle.

derah · 06/11/2007 17:37

I've heard every other day is best because then DP's sperm count has a chance to get up again. If you do it every day he might be a little low on ammunition.

Pinkchampagne · 06/11/2007 17:45

Once a month in my case, and I was on the pill!

spugs · 06/11/2007 19:30

twice i fell pregnant in one night (dd1 & mc) once every other day for 4 mths and every other day for 2 mths this time. for me and seemingly a lot of people getting pissed and not bothering with a condom seems to work well!!!

Just saw an article (somewhere) which said that frequent sex increases sperm production. A 3-day marathon at the tail end of my monthly window of fertility did the job for me!

looneytune · 06/11/2007 21:22

For first couple of months ttc we did try every day/every other day but because I knew more about fertile days, I couldn't help but 'make sure' we did it on the right days and it ruined sex for us. We ended up having it less and on the 3rd month, I decided to forget all that and we just had sex when we fancied it and I conceived that month (now 7 weeks pg). With ds (4.8) I didn't know about fertile days etc. and conceived first month after coming off the pill (MC'd), then tried again after 3 months and immediately conceived again. For ME it's better to just have sex without protection and not worry about when too much

FrannyandZooey · 06/11/2007 21:25

I thought that if you left it more than 3 days (with man not ejaculating at all) the sperm would all be kaput anyway

but if you do it very frequently the number of sperm will be fewer, so making it less likely a sperm will get to the egg on the right day

I thought every 1 or 2 days was a good idea

Hayleyandbaby · 07/11/2007 16:14

We did the ovulation calendars online and got pregnant really quick. We tried to cut down from 4 times a day to once a night when we were trying. Also, after each time I propped my legs up on the wall so that the little sperms would be able to swim up the right way. Worked a treat!!!!

susiemj · 07/11/2007 16:20

Tried at 'fertile times' for four months with no joy then went on honeymoon and had sex every day - Bingo! I think it was the relaxation of the holiday more than anything.

GreenGlassGoblin · 07/11/2007 16:28

well if I get pg anytime soon the teenagers that our babies will become will be quite right when they say to themselves 'well, there's 2 of us, so mum and dad must have done it twice, eeugh'. Or at least they won't be far off the mark (I have one DS, conceived when we only had sex once that month)

FCH · 07/11/2007 16:32

We went for the "every other day pretty much all month" approach which worked pretty sharpish for us - and was brilliant fun. Have to say that I could have got a little fed up with it if it had gone on past 2 months though as I am not usually an evening person...
