I’m 32 weeks tomorrow and have been admitted with a smaller baby and reduced flow from placenta on ultrasound scan. I’ve had my steroid injection and have been told the max I will be allowed to get to is 34 weeks (if I make it that far). It’s my first baby (IVF also) and I was not expecting it at all! Admitted after a routine clinic visit and will not be going home until I deliver. Anyone any positive stories? Trying my best not to worry but it’s hard :’( Baby’s weight was 1.5kg which I think is okish?

Hi there,

Haven't been through the exact same thing but just wanted to give some reassurance. I had my baby at 31 weeks after I went into labour spontaneously - he weighed 1.75kg at birth and spent a week in an incubator and another 3 weeks in hospital getting bigger and stronger before we could take him home. Its not an easy thing to go through and there was a lot of worry at the beginning about feeding and weight gain but he's now a mad 2 year old with absolutely no issues.

You're really in the best place and its great you've had the steroids so baby's lungs can get ready for the world. There is a premature birth page on here which might be useful for reading other peoples experiences.

Sending you and your baby lots of good wishes.

Hello 👋 I had the exact same thing, baby was delivered at 34w by cesarian and he weighed 1.5kg. I remember being so scared thinking he wouldn't make it but he came out crying and most importantly he was healthy, just small. He was in NICU for 5 days but not in an Incubator or anything.

Being in NICU I realised how lucky we were, some babies were born much earlier weighing barely anything. Its amazing what they can do.

Oh Hun! I am potentially following in your footsteps, I'm 30+2 with DCDA twins. Twin 1 is measuring 3rd centile (dropped from 10th) so they are having me in for scans every 2 weeks and twice a week I need to come to the day unit for each twin to be monitored.

Twin 1 is 1.2kg ish and twin 2 is 1.5kg ISH, if it helps ease your mind?

Sending big big hugs to you!

Ds2 was born at 33+1 because of fears of a failing placenta (I’m diabetic and my sugar kept dropping). He like my other dc was a very tall baby and weighed 2kg. He spent one day on cpap and few more days on low level oxygen. The rest of his days was spent waiting for him to learn how to feed! He was to tried/ weak to drink enough milk. He was finally discharged on day 15, when he was drinking enough from a bottle.

Thanks so much everyone for your kind words and encouraging stories - I’ll have a look at the premature page too! I feel a bit better now that I’ve had time to get used to it and feel grateful that I’m 32 weeks today
