Hi,

Based on personal experience I’m looking for sleeping bag brand / toggle recommendations for a baby due in July?

If its warm then you would normally use 1tog although you can get 0.5tog if its really hot.

Your baby may not be big or heavy enough to go straight into one though

Watching this one!

Also interested if they’re not in a sleeping bag from newborn, then is it a short babygro and blanket during summer for sleep?

This is helpful.

Grobag make one that can kind of be a swaddle too by using poppers on the arms and is suitable for newborns, and one with flaps that can be used to swaddle. We had both, they're very thin cotton and great for summer babies Smile

Depends where in the country you are too. Had my first baby in the south east - in summer, some nights were so hot, she slept in just a nappy. Expecting my second in June in Scotland. Going for 1.5 / 2.5 togs here!

I’m in Scotland. Due in 4 weeks. My son has only ever been in a 2.5 tog bag except when we’re on holiday 😂

I'm in Scotland and have used 1tog during summer when my kids were small. Good for naps too

MintGreenLife · 08/03/2021 16:35

This is probably a silly question, but on average how many grow bags do you need? I'm expecting my first in August x

dementedpixie · 08/03/2021 16:37

At least 2 so you have a spare in case of pee, poo or puke

Grobag are the most well known brand for sleeping bags but Next, John Lewis and M&S all do their own which might not be as expensive. I would recommend a 0.5 tog sleeping bag for summer if last summer was anything to go by.

MintGreenLife · 08/03/2021 16:56

@dementedpixie thanks, I was thinking I would buy maybe 4, so that should be plenty!

peachypetite · 08/03/2021 18:43

I’d wait and see and get one nearer the time. Also, babies have to be a certain weight before they can fit so newborn probably won’t be in it immediately.

For newborns you can buy muslin swaddling blankets or just use traditional blankets. We used a blanket but moved to sleeping bags as our LO didn't stop moving.

We were gifted Aden and Anais ones in the summer which I really liked.
