Painful sex

I'm now 34 weeks pregnant and have had pain during sex my whole pregnancy - although admittedly we have only done it twice as I usually feel like crap anyway!

Has anyone else experienced this?

I've had a couple UTI and bouts of thrush which I don't think have helped. I did a pessary for the thrush and inserting it was soooooo painful!

I'm now at the point where I'm thinking about birth and surely they will want to examine me at some stage, or what if I need a sweep. It's going to be agony!

I tried to do perennial massage and aside from the fact I can't really reach it hurts too much anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️

Have you spoken to your midwife about it?

Well you need to be seen..obviously. by a medical professional

Sex is painful for me whilst pregnant it feels like I'm to small and leads to a burning sensation, we tried a water based lube but it was only a marginal improvement so we just give penetrative sex a wide berth. I still managed to be examined though when in labour don't get me wrong it wasn't exactly a pleasant experience but by the same token I wasn't backing up the bed screaming. An examination takes less than a minute you can get by by gritting your teeth or at least I did.

I couldn't have sex in pregnancy much with my first, I was basically hypersensitive so it was painful, we abandoned it completely by the time I was about 26 weeks. I didn't have any problems with vaginal examinations at the end though, uncomfortable sure but not very painful. Perineal massage I got DH to do, I did find that painful but I think that's a sign that it's working as the whole purpose is to stretch. Hated it but gritted my teeth because I was so scared of tearing. (Had an episiotomy in the end because of an instrumental delivery, but no other tearing, so who knows if it helped or not.)

@ArtfulScreamer @MeadowHay thanks for your helpful answers! Think I am in the same boat as you both

I think it's more common than people let on and for me it must be cycle related as things didn't start to feel back to normal for me until my periods returned. I'm currently 24 weeks with my 2nd and it's the same again but at least this time around I was prepared for it.
