Abdominal circumference on the 5th centile

Hi everyone,

This is my first post. I just wanted to see if anyone else had had a similar experience to me and if so, what was the outcome? We had our 20 week scan 5 weeks ago and they said baby’s abdominal circumference was low (on the 10th centile) so I would need to be rescanned in 4 weeks. We had the scan at 24 weeks last week and baby’s abdomen was on the 5th centile with all other measurements on lower end of normal. To be honest the whole experience was a bit of a shambles and I was supposed to see a doctor but never did, and the midwife just told me that I’d be scanned again at 28 weeks and see the consultant then. I wasn’t offered any real explanation or reassurance and now I can’t help but worry that something is wrong with the baby. They said that the blood flow from the placenta to the umbilical chord was very good which is reassuring I suppose. Has anyone else had a similar experience and everything turned out fine?

Also might be worth mentioning that I am only 5 ft 1 and constitutionally petite myself so possibly it’s genetic!

Replying as I'm in a similar position too Blessing99. I'm getting growth scans every 3 weeks at the minute to keep an eye on growth. Currently 27 weeks xx

Hi @Athena1984 -- very old post , but will give u the final summary, my baby 's delivery did happen at full term, at the date given by Gynaec during regular check ups, what happened in our case is this, baby's abdomen remains a bit small compared to head and since head grew enough by full term, the doctor said its time to get the baby out if the mother doesnt get pains, luckily the pains came just in time, the baby and mother both are healthy and fine, my boy is 18 months ,healthy and hale.. probably has a lean stomach compared to other babies, but his pediatrician also chked him from time of birth and said, since all organs are growing at right pace and are good, need not wrry abt the small AC durign pregnanxy ..

@Blessing99 thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I am glad that everything went well and your boy is doing well. I can only hope it will be the same for me too but makes me happy hearing your experience.
