Help!! Early viability scans showed baby measured the same a week apart but had a strong heartbeat both times

I had a scan last weekend, at 5 weeks 5 days and measured 6mm (6 weeks 1 day), all looked great and had a heartbeat, good size GS and yolk sac.
I had another day, and it showed it was 6.1mm which is unchanged but still strong heart beat.
I have a history of recurring missed miscarriages so I am preparing for the worst when I get rescanned in a week but the only hope I have is that when the baby is so small, the measurements may not mean too much?

Anyone got similar experiences?

Any help would be really really appreciated

They won't date a pregnancy this early because it is so hard to measure properly.
The slightest movement in the way they measure it can add days and days.
This is why they wait until 12 weeks to date.
So it could be that whoever measured it this time, was less generous with measuring compared to the person last time.
Did they seem concerned?

Flowers15 · 06/03/2021 23:02

@SnooperTrooper12345 they didn’t comment much but I’ve had a bit of spotting since my positive test on and off and I have a history of recurrent miscarriage, with no live children. So I am preparing myself for the worst but hoping for the best 😊

I had this, first two scans showed little growth if any. Third showed all was well! It was a tough few weeks. Fingers crossed for you Flowers

Hi everyone @SnooperTrooper12345 @Livingmagicallyagain . Good news, had another scan and it showed growth and now I’m exactly in line with where I should be for my dates.
Just thought I would post an update in case other people find this post in the future to see mine (so far) is a success story and CRL measurements don’t seem to mean much in the very early days

That's great news!

Funauntienowmummytobe · 09/03/2021 17:41

Really happy for you, great news!!

MollySxx · 10/03/2021 11:43

I’m so happy you’ve posted this @Flowers15 I’m currently in my 2 weeks limbo. Have had 3 miscarriages all last year, I am now 8 weeks pregnant (counted from LMP as didn’t track ovulation) went for a scan at 5+4 and empty sac which was 3mm, went back a week later and sac was 7mm, but empty still, went back another week later and sac was 9mm but with yolk sac. I’m now 5 days into my 2 weeks wait for another scan. I know our stories aren’t fully the same, but you’ve given me some reassurance.

Sending my love to you x

Flowers15 · 10/03/2021 12:00

Hi @MollySxx oh bless you. I have had 2 miscarriages and 2 chemical pregnancies. So this is also my 5th pregnancy.
Waiting for the next scan after an inconclusive scan is honestly the worst. All I will say is the embryo is so tiny in the early weeks that it’s common not to see much until a bit later. The yolk sac is a really good sign.
I also know lots of ladies who were a bit slow to develop things in the early weeks and had scans that worried them but now have beautiful babies.
The wait must be awful but keep hope as I’m sure everything is going to be fine at your next scan!! Xx

@Flowers15 also my 5th pregnancy. I delivered my identical twin girls at 24 weeks, they were stillborn. They were really poorly with many things. But I feel like I don’t count them with the 3 miscarriages because experiencing miscarriages and actually giving birth to my babies are 2 completely different losses.

But yes, this is my 5th pregnancy so keeping everything crossed it’s okay. Not sure how much “pick yourself up and carry on” I have left in me

Flowers15 · 10/03/2021 12:14

@MollySxx I am so sorry to hear that. That is truly tragic and can’t imagine pain like it.
I understand how you would feel like that, especially what has happened. I feel like that too, and not sure I would want to go again after this if this ends badly. All you can do is take this one day by day, be kind to yourself, and not worry about anything other than that. Everything else (like if you work, or anybody else’s problems) matter. Prioritise just getting through each day xx

@Flowers15 I am currently in the same situation.. I am 100% sure on my dates and I should have been 6 weeks 3 days but only measured 6 weeks (4.7mm CRL). I went for a scan 5 days later and it was 6 weeks 5 Days (7.8mm). My problem is the mm in CRL between the 5 days is only 3mm which from what I am reading is not good and should be 1mm per day. Just wondering was there much difference in your CRL measurements?

Strawberry08 · 22/03/2021 14:33

Hello
My first scan I measured 6mm (at 5 weeks 5 days) so was measuring a few days ahead.
A week later at my second scan, I measured 6mm so no growth and I went into full meltdown mode thinking it was another miscarriage as measured behind and no growth. Both times there was a strong heart beat.
Fast forward a week later measured 7.1mm which was exactly right for my dates.
Another scan two weeks after that, measured 21.4mm, two days ahead.

Still going strong at 9 weeks + 2 days (going from my lmp) and feeling positive.
Mortal of the story is the measurements don’t mean much at all in the early days as everything is super tiny, we are talking mm here and it’s depending on the equipment they use, the position of baby, the sonographer who’s doing it etc. They also say that the measurements are correct to plus or minus 5 days so I would say everything is totally fine for you, and your little bean is healthy x

Just to update my reply to this thread...

For me it wasn't a good outcome, I had a confirmed silent miscarriage on Friday. I have since been to the hospital today and I have passed the miscarriage on my own.

My scans were at 5+4, empty sac measuring 4mm
6+4, empty sac measuring 7mm
7+4, sac with yolk measuring 9mm
9+4, sac with yolk, no baby, no growth or progression so silent miscarriage was diagnosed

Strawberry08 · 22/03/2021 14:36

@Lbyrne121

Sorry messed up my dates/ measurements!! Third scan was a week after my meltdown scan and was measuring 13mm not 7.1, my dates were 7 days + 5.

Fourth scan a week after that was 8 weeks 5 days and I measured 21.4mm.

But yes anyway same thing still applies 😊😊 hope that makes sense!!

Strawberry08 · 22/03/2021 14:40

@MollySxx I am so sorry to hear that after everything you have been through. Sending love & hoping you have lots of supportive people to help you through this xx

Livingmagicallyagain · 22/03/2021 14:41

So sorry to hear that @MollySxx Flowers

Lbyrne121 · 22/03/2021 19:09

Thanks everyone... just a question doesnt the measurements on these scans look so inaccurate? Looks like she took the crl to be measuring way more than it is? All of them seem to have been measured this way

Help!! Early viability scans showed baby measured the same a week apart but had a strong heartbeat both times
Strawberry08 · 22/03/2021 19:31

Looks like they might have done a bit extra on the right but doesn’t look too far out.
But then again I’m not a sonographer so it could be right!
