Short femur length but large h/c and a/c reassurance

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone else had experience of their baby's femur length measuring small but the head and abdominal circumference measuring large.

I had my first growth scan today at 26 weeks due to having low papp-a. The notes say growth within normal range however the femur centile has dropped since my 20 week scan and the h/c has shot up from around the 50th to what it is now.

I've attached my report so the centiles can be seen... I know I am probably being silly and that I would have been told if things didn't look okay but I can't help worry as they seem so out of proportion!

I had that and it all evened out later. They said it was common for bits to have slightly diff growth spurts. I did picture giving birth to a little gorilla boy for a while but he looks pretty normal Grin

Congratulations on your pregnancy. My son was out of proportion too - about 50th centile for AC, but 90th for HC and about 30-40th for FL. He didn’t get much more even in proportion throughout pregnancy when I had scans, but there’s nothing wrong with him! He’s 2 now, about 60-70th centile for height, about 50th for weight, has a big head for his age (his bobble hat is age 8-12years!) and grows out of tops before trousers by a few weeks, but he doesn’t look freaky in the play area running around with the other kids. They come in all different shapes and sizes. Hope that’s reassuring!

@indub @Peelspeelspeels Thanks both for responding, glad to hear everything ended up fine with you!

I am only 5'4, partner is 6 foot but hopefully she is just taking after her mummy with her little legs!

Both my boys had HC/AC above the 95th centile, but femurs well below the 50th on multiple scans. Both of them were big babies (10lb and 9lb12) and totally healthy. Not noticeably stubby legs!

I thought that as long as everything was in the bars there was nothing at all to worry about, is that not correct? X

SunnySideUp2020 · 06/03/2021 17:36

Mine is the same.
AC and HC at around 50% but FL now 10% previously was 18%.
36 weeks so I'll let you know

Desmondo2016 · 06/03/2021 18:10

Same here, AC normal, HC off the charts and FL on the low side. Completely normal child. Well, he's massively abnormal in many ways lol but he's physically in proportion!

Desmondo2016 · 06/03/2021 18:11

Oh, before you panic that short femur equals different abnormalities he's not actually abnormal, just a unique character at times 🤣

SunnySideUp2020 · 03/11/2022 00:34

@De12345 all was good. Baby was born perfect at 53cm and she is still on the 90th centile for height. No short legs at all
