Hi all,

I’m currently 14 weeks pregnant and had my first ever migraine today. I lost vision for awhile and now have a thumping headache that won’t pass (I’ve taken paracetamol).
It’s been quite a stressful week due to work and thinking it may have been brought on by that, but reading symptoms and seeing signs of preeclampsia.
Has anyone had that and been ok? Did you have increased headaches/migraines and it not be preeclampsia?

Hi! I'm 37 weeks pregnant and I too have been suffering with migraines particularly badly throughout this pregnancy! I get an hour or so with aura in my eyes and then hit with the dreaded headache! Midwife and consultant don't seem concerned though when I have previously mentioned them! it can sometimes be just another side affect of pregnancy! But if your worried mention it to your midwife and see what they think! Lots of rest and water! Sometimes a nice warm bath can help to relieve the tension as well! Hope you feel better soon!

Could be totally wrong but I thought symptoms of pregnant eclampsia usually showed up in the third trimester and rarely before. I was getting headaches around then and found they are quite common around that time, mine have gone now. You could tell your midwife at 16 week appointment and they’ll also test your urine xx

Like pp, I was told pre-eclampsia was only late 2nd to 3rd trimester.

I had pre-eclampsia at 28 weeks. No headaches but caught via protein in urine and high bp at a midwife appointment.

The placenta isn't big enough to be having an effect from a pre eclampsia point of view. This would be after 20 weeks.
Migraines are common in pregnancy due to hormonal changes. Plenty of fluids and analgesia when required. Hope this helps.

Pre-eclampsia before 20 weeks is extremely rare, if i remember my doctor correctly I think virtually unheard of.

I never get headaches when I'm not pregnant, I've had terrible ones this pregnancy but discussions with doctors from previous pregnancies made me know not to worry (and my mum had pre-eclampsia with me).

My headaches are brutal but I had my blood pressure checked last week at my routine appontment (I was 20 weeks) and it is 98/55... i.e..borderline low.

I am fairly sure mine come on if I leave it too long without eating. And once they start they take forever to shift even after I've eaten. I've had them even last through the night.

Hormones are wonderful things aren't they!

Wow thank you everyone. Probably googling symptoms which lead me down the path of eclampsia hasn’t helped lol.
I wasn’t sure if headaches were meant to wear off after the first trimester but I guess I’m still quite early and everything’s changing.
I’m having a guilt free bed day and I have a catchup with my midwife soon, so will double check then.
Thanks everyone x

I think pre-eclampsia would be very odd at 14 weeks but definitely mention headaches at your 16 week appt. One thing I did was get myself a blood pressure monitor. They obviously check you BP at MW appts and that is a more reliable way to monitor but having one at home helped me see what a normal pattern is for me and be fairly happy that there was no massive issue when I got headaches early on. I'm now in 3rd trimester and my last MW measurement was 120/80 which they were happy with as it's in the normal range but I pointed out that my measurement 2 wks ago was 108/62 and 1 month ago was 94/52 so although "normal" this is a big increase for me. They've put me on more regular monitoring as a result so definitely worth advocating for yourself.

@BlueberryPancake21ok that’s good to know, maybe I’ll look into getting one. Thank you 😀
